APOCALYPSE Sega System 16B Multi Sales, Installation and Support

Hey guys, getting back on my multi and trying some new games, thanks, I love this!

I saw on the forums some people need to rewire their System16->JAMMA adapter for Button 4 on Bullet, and I did that OK, but I cannot find a Bullet manual online anywhere to figure out how to hook up Player 3.

I've read about the S16/24/32 I/O board for trackballs, which seems super rare and nigh unattainable to get even a repro made, tho I see the gerber exists so you can build your own.

Does this same board allow 3P for Bullet and I'm guessing 3P+4P for Quartet? And does it plug into CN5?

We played the 3P Bullet cab at Galloping Ghosts and really want to get maximize my S16 experience w/ analog & more players!

Hi,

I have a problem with my Multi 16B. I have a black screen at startup.

The motherboard is from an Altered Beast that works very well when I put the game board back.

I took pictures of the Z80 and the 68000 which both seem unencrypted.

I removed all the EPROMs to reposition them, nothing does.

Do you think it's a flashing problem of the EPROMS -I use a T48- or the Z80 / the 68000 to change on the motherboard ?

Thank you in advance for your help or
ideas.

Hi @selu,

Thanks to your nice video, I have removed 8751 chip !

I have now an image on the screen but It’s totally glitched.

Is this possibly due to the motherboard ?

Anyway thank you for your help.

Did the alex kidd 16b version ever get dumped/added yet?

Alex Kidd The Lost Stars never appeared on Sega System 16B as far as I know. The Sega System 16A release uses a UPD7751 chip for voice samples that isn't present in the 16B board, which is why it isn't on the 16B Multi. Maybe if the voice samples were patched out by somebody...

Your motherboard, 68000 CPU and Z80 CPU all look correct to me.

Pull EPROMs 1, 2 and 3 from the Multi board and verify them again in your programmer. Also make sure you didn't get EPROMs 6 and 9 mixed up.

I have rechecked all the EPROMs (the 6th was bad and I reburned/verified It) and I’m still having a glitchy image for each game I select :(

My original Altered Beast rom board works fine.

Hmm... strange. We'd have to check the contact of each ROM chip with its socket on the multi-board. I'd also check the condition of the pins on the four connectors between the multi-board and the System 16 motherboard. Is the multi-board oriented correctly (see minute 5:00 of my video).

Are all the DIP switches on the motherboard set to OFF?

In my opinion, it's a loose connection in one of the ROMs on the multi-board. Do you have a logic probe or oscilloscope? I would check for data flow on the Data Outputs pins of ROMs 27C322 and 27C801 (Q0-Q15 for 27C322, and Q0-Q7 for 27C801). If either of these pins shows a sustained "1" (5V) or a sustained "0" (0V), instead of alternating 1s and 0s, you've located the fault. This test must, of course, be performed with the board powered on. This way, you'll accomplish two things at once: checking the status of the sockets and determining if there are any remaining faulty graphics ROMs.
