So I picked up a Raiden Fighters Jet yesterday, and it's near totally dead. On powerup it briefly flashes a white screen and then it goes black. For a while it was holding the white screen, occasionally blue or teal, and once or twice a carpet pattern. Now, just the brief flash, which is less encouraging than the usual complaints of checksum or other errors on-screen. I'm planning to try and repair it, so I'm going to track my progress here, and encourage suggestions about the appropriate fixes.
The board itself is clean, really good condition, except for the dust. No scratches, marks or signs of mishandling.
First up, I tested the power. 4.96V across the board, and 12.2V where it should be.
I'm thinking a lifted leg or bad trace, and the plan is to reflow the customs (which seems to be the usual culprit). My assistant Bean is helping with the tricky bits.
