I finished this build a few years ago, but thought I'd throw it up here now. Been stuck on pinball for a while but now getting the arcade bug back so branching out into different forums. This started with saving a 9-inch CRT security monitor from going in the bin. A few months later picked up some free tinted glass. Then the idea was born to build a scaled SI cab with the iconic reflective screen and backdrop. I was able to measure up an original Tatio SI cab from a member on the Aussie Arcade forum, he also gave me a small UV light for the backdrop. This will be easy!

So to get the reflected image on the glass the CRT would have to output a reverse image. Never done this but it would be possible. But didn't get around to trying cause what started as a cheap project using free stuff didn't end up that way:
  • Free CRT : died the second time it turned on after fitting it to the cab.
  • Got another small crt to try out. It wasn't bright enough for a good reflection.
  • The free glass that the cab size was based on - the tinted glass caused a double reflection that I couldn't get rid of.
Ended up using a LCD with perspex with tint, added a backlight onto the perspex to get rid of the double image. This took so much trial and error to get it right. So the image is still reversed, but just change the left-right inputs on the joystick aroound and it plays fine, just with reversed text. It sits in my boys room now and looks farkin awesome.

Used a RF modulator on this cool TV. Not bright enough to use.

Now using a VGA monitor. Still has double image problem.
