[Taito Type X2] Flashing a GeForce 7900 with Elsa 979 BIOS

I dunno about shipping to Brazil because of import tax and all that, but if you're interested I can try to find one for you. Only catch is they're sold as untested at the local shops and I have no way of testing it...

Unfortunately I don't think flashing a 7300 would work.

The taxes have gone up absurdly, importing the video card would be the last option, I still have to search in some places but it has to be in person, if I can't do it I'll send you a message and thanks for the help.

There was, I gotta dig it up though.

X1 I think supports 15Khz but X2 does not.
Sorry for digging this up, but... some GFX card can have their BIOS patched so they can output 15k (480i) instead of 31k (480p).

Hasn't anybody found a way to apply such a modification to the BIOS used on X2 gfx boards ?

Just asking. A bottle in the ocean.

Not that I'm aware of. Might be possible with extensive hacking, but considering that most of these games are designed to run with a very specific card, it's probably quite the ask to hack them to work with the usual array of cards that support the 15k output.

A certain Austrian bootlegger did something to support this that I think involved using two video cards. Not really sure how it works, but there are photos floating around if you dig enough.

If you're replacing a 979GS, it's 7900GS or GT only as far as I am aware. I guess you can use the "force" flag, but I wouldn't expect it to work. Probably will just brick the card.

AFAIK the games are hard-coded to only run with the 979GS firmware.

For the ATI cards or the 9800GT, etc., you have to use the same card (or equivalent) with matching firmware. This is why you cannot just pop a 7900GS in, the games expect the 979GS firmware and won't run if it doesn't match.

I dug up a 7900GS, i could have sworn i read you could use a 7600gs. Does it make a difference if I am running the @Niko multi?
I can deal with JAMMA hardware but PCs locked as arcade hardware I haven't played with much.

You need a 7900GS unless the games/OS have been hacked/modified.

I don't think anyone released a way to do it directly from the TX2, you can't boot off USB so you probably need to make a FreeDOS drive and hook up a keyboard, which may require unlocking the BIOS. Not sure, never tried.

I have an X2 coming and want to be sure of the correct and best cpu model and ram to run in it

Which cpu would be best if I were to add mame to it

Cheers

Honestly, if you're wanting to run MAME, you'd be better off just using a regular PC. It will be a much better experience.

If you're wanting to run Type X / X2 games ( on an X2 ), you want the Pentium4 with 7900GS GPU.

@Niko
Is it worth the x2 or should I just add the games to my high power pc?

The 7950gt can be used as well with the OC bios u made, correct?
