Sure, I wanted to create a "HD-kit" that could be put in a candy cab.
I did have a spare Egret 3 bezel so I can shift back to CRT anytime I want.

I rebuilt the spare bezel like this:

I removed the plastic shell of the monitor and made a frame that fits where a 29" CRT had been:

Here you can see that the screen metal edge sits under the cab hood, so no harm was done to the cab except the spare bezel:

Absolutely, my Bezel is heavy cos of all the fiberglass, someone with a plastic moulding machine could do a lighter more slim Bezel.

Awesome Monouchi, thank you. I was thinking something similar when i was looking to replace the CRTs. This helps tremendously towards that goal.

Like jassin points out, I looked into creating custom 27" 4:3 lcd panels. The cost to have a manufacturer setup their production line to accommodate the larger 4:3 aspect ratio screens started at $15K and when up from there. I was willing to spend the initial $15K to have some prototype panels made, but the catch was that you also had to guarantee the manufacturer a certain amount of screens would be made/purchased for 2-3 years after their retooling. So yeah, I was not going to commit to that.

Now, to reiterate Jassin's post, creating on injection molded bezel to adapt current HD flat panel screens to the older cabs, that might be very doable since now you have shown us your prototype bezel. I would be willing to partner up and invest in getting this done if anyone else has any interest in doing this as well.

I would definitly buy a plastic moulded bezel.
If someone is up for the project I can send more data and pics of my prototype.

Yeah, making a 4:3 monitor would be cool but costly.
Important to remember is that the viewing angle has to be really really good to fit in old cabs cos of the much angled screen.

My monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 27" LED S27C650D with 6.6ms input lag, just awesome. (PLS panel)
It also had a normal (No touch) remote with a normal cable that easily could be made longer and be put under the control panel. This monitor won over many other more expensive monitors that I searched through and tested.

Instead of the very expensive injection mold two significant cheaper solutions maybe possible:

Yeah, I agree that 27 inch panel almost looks like it was built for the unit.Thanks for all the info. I think solutions like these are going to be more and more necessary. Also, your game room is stunning.

The added benefit of a VGA monitor will go along way toward combating lag.
While popular (and stunning to look at), this is the one major failing of the xRGB mini setup and actually HDMI in general.

Taito is continuing to sell the official JAMMA kit, the 640x480 via VGA make it perfect for adding a SLG3000 (scanlines).
Its not cheap, and it won't support your CP wiring out of the box (unless you have a Vewlix)...
However the JVS power leads, JAMMA edge connector, inline sound volume/amp and scaler board all together make it a fantastic kit.
You'll side step the xRGB mini's 16ms for something closer to the xRGB-3's 2ms, but with nice easy to use presets for many common boards.

I am very eager to try the new OSSC, as I think it could be the best solution for arcade fans going forward!

I have been following Marqs project for almost 2 years now. Hopefully it delivers on its promises.

I think we need to persuade Darksoft to make a multi all in one solution for our video needs; converter,upscaler,scanline generator,etc...with O lag and multiple video output options.

I was a regular visitor to Fudoh's blog up until my XRGB-mini arrived. This is the first I've heard of the OSSC. It looks pretty cool. I can't wait to hear some reviews as it could a great solution for arcade machines and slow death of CRT's.

I also second the suggestion that Darksoft tackle the video processor solution. After he finishes the Taito F3 and PGM multi's !

I actually came quite far with a NNC HD project that had a 26" screen.
But no, in a NUC the space us tighter and I had to cut into the hood to get it to fit, it was also many problems when the screen was in Yoko as then the speakers had no place to be.
Possible yes, but with a lot of work to get it nice looking.

I don't mind the hijacking, but I think your doing yourself a disservice by not having all this gold in its own thread.

I think we should have a sub-section on the forum dedicated to this and other cab upgrades. What do you guys think??? I truly believe we should try to make bezels to use flat panel displays happen.

After meeting with Derick, I believe my cab is finally finished!

I promised to take pictures when next I did a LCD swap... That didn't go so well.
Like my last one I rushed right into it, half way thru it dawned on me that "oh yea I WAS suppose to be taking pictures" of this process.

This is Derick's first Vewlix C cab, we removed his side panels, the old LCD and also bottom speaker assembly (its easier to access the cable pass-thru by doing this).
Just like mine, it was dust city inside here and required a good cleaning.

Jassin thanks for the help brother, it would have taken me twice as long to do it alone. I will consider this my Vewlix for Jamma cab, still need to get some more parts. like the SGL3000 and the Reco.
