What's new
2.2uF 35V. I put 50Vs there on mine since they're so cheap. I always wonder why SMD cap makers don't just write values in the standard format. I'm going to write them a letter! :D

I also remove and clean off that big heat sink and put ceramic thermal compound/grease on it, as well as under the voltage regulator to the right. Total OCD.

ok, will get to it ;)

updated my picture and will add it to the attachment so everyone else can use it as a reference ;)

Also I'm going through my system 12 board now and they all appear to have exactly the same PCB and cap layout, can you confirm this from your Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag work?
I will upload the mapped pictures in your Tekken 3 thread if you don't mind?

Nice work! I believe these cap maps will work for any Namco System 11 PCB.

However, Tekken 3 & Tag are different since they're System 12. I can try to work on some cap maps for them though, I'll just go through pictures online until I can identify everything.

here is the map I made for Ehrgeiz System 12, matches as well with my Tekken 3 and Soul Calibur board.
Cannot check Tekken Tag as that is inside my cab with some boxes stored in front of it... :(

I think I will start a thread someday ;)

First I want to gather some more info on some other cap maps I plan to make for other PCB’s I own

small update on my broken solder pad, thanks to my buddy @Sp33dFr34k for giving me access to his PCB ;)
Btw his boards look all minty, original caps and all.... (Tekken 2, Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag)

But the trace runs to multiple points, C14, underneath IC2 and to C13, so easy fix for me :D

Just a general question, but can someone edumacate me on why you want to replace the surface mount caps with through-hole ones? Thanks.

Same issue with PC Engine Duo’s, stock SMD all fail resulting in missing/crackling audio etc.
Replace them with Radial caps and be done with it ;)

SMD caps tend to fail sooner than Radial caps...
The original caps on these PCBs are aluminum electrolytic SMD capacitors with polarity.

They have an SMD footprint but it is still a an aluminium capacitor.

I don't understand how replacing an aluminum capacitor with an SMD footprint with a radial aluminum capacitor has any effect ?

You can use whichever type you have on hand. The lifespan will come down to a cap's rating. I don't keep SMDs stocked, so I always use radials.

Well, looking at the durability of SMD caps on PC Engine and how good they hold on System 11/12, I prefer ‘regular’ radial caps.

Of course you could recap a System 11/12 with SMD caps if you want, should also last another 10+ years ;)

Yeah, System 11/12 SMD work will traumatize anyone who beholds it. '90s SMD caps in general give me a dirty feeling inside, but I'm sure the modern stuff is excellent.

Most people just don't have SMD tools. I replace mine with new quality SMD caps.

I actually found a Revolution X pcb where the original caps had just started leaking. Usually these pcbs die from trace damage due to multiple caps leaking. Sound usually goes out first then it dies completely. I immediately replaced all of the caps and cleaned up all the leakage. I will have my cab up and running finally after about 6 years. :)

Here are some crap-tastic test shots from my old plasma:

TES1 is Tekken 2. Backside of the main board should have a small white sticker. Also the game revision is shown the service menu
