The hardware is physically different, the boot ROM is also different and the game is not coded to run properly on a Super 256.

i have a ss256 board i have from japan that ive used to gut for shell and common parts. should work fine if you can find out what i ripped off. no chips were removed. if youre interested or have an offer pm me. had no idea these were rare.
