What's new
I'm floored... amazing work and that collection is unreal.

Came here for Cab pics, stayed for the CRT porn! Thanks for sharing, what a thread!

Lots of good stuff fixed in today’s session.
Ice Cold Beer is done and looking good! Plays great and sounds like vintage goodness. Will be awesome with an actual ice cold beer!

Next up was Spiderman. Chassis had been recaped and a new flyback was installed, but tube had lost the will to live. Turning up the flyback way to high got a really fucked picture, soooo.... I guess it rejuvenation time 😁

Time to bring out the trusty B&K precision 490. A lovely machine to work with. Just love that gorgeous bastard!

After adjusting the pots and setting the cutoff to max.... Nothing. Plain dead. No guns alive at all... This will be interesting.

Started with some light clean and balance (the mildest form of rejuv) and finally got some life + a spectacular neckglow... It’s alive!!!

Damn!

The green and blue guns just needed a shock, but the red gun (as usual...) needed some tougher love. Time to rejuvenate this fucker!

Score! All color-guns on the good side of green! Did some more color tracking and made sure no shorts was present and put everything back together hoping the tube was ok after some pretty hard core punishment.

Adjusting the screen and focus + adjusted all the colors from scratch and got this result. Not to shabby for a 100% dead tube.

Will probably die after 1 year of service, but it was fun to bring it back to life with some CRT-CPR. Happygame!

Not bad at all, but colors where off, focus was bad and flyback was to high. Lets make it pretty!

Got a pretty decent grid and nice colors!

Not a huge effort, but a nice result and a great game that both looks and sounds nice. Happygame number 2!

and hey, if you could write us drooling fools here the « basic » procedure you use to adjust the screens, we would be eternally grateful!

Thats the tricky part. With analog stuff, you just have to get a feel for it. Every tube and chassis is unique in it’s own way and you just have to practice... Like practice a lot 😁

The most important part is that it looks good to you, the owner of the cab.
but..... If you are like me, you will change your mind like a million times and recalibrate until the cows come home... The great thing about this is that you’ll soon get comfortable around CRT’s and know what you can touch and what to stay the hell away from.

Here are some links to some good info written by smarter people than me.
I think they cover the basics setups nicely.

Adjusting convergence rings and using convergence strips is something I don’t recommend you start with, since it’s easy to mess up a perfectly good image fast, but this guy knows his shit and thought me a lot.

He has a great (but a little dorky 😁) YouTube channel.

I make my own convergence strips, but you can also buy them on ebay.

Good luck with your calibrations!

Well I received my convergence strips yesterday :) ... so I am almost ready to give that a try since I am ashamed of how one of my blast is looking ...

Thanks for all the links, will give them all a go!

Nice!
Here’s some C-strip tips!
Just take your time and make sure you have it set on a ok spot before you stick it on. I recommend to clean the area around the yoke with some alcohol before turning the cab on. Remove all that nasty dust and grime in the spot where you plan to stick the convergence strips.
Sometimes you need more than one strip to make it sexy. Sometimes even 3.

And you have to choose between good geometry or good convergence.
Most of the time you can’t have both...

3 more cabs got some tender loving. No big issues. Just minor adjustments and convergence correction.
First up:

R-type

All good with electrical (love the faraday cage!) Screen needed a clean and some minor TLC.

Had some minor convergence issue, but forgot to take a “before” picture.....
Still looks good after 40 years of service.

Happy cab #2
