What's new

twistedsymphony's adventures in making PCBs.

looks pretty awesome, something like this for CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3 Multis would be great!

Just designed a small interface board with some voltage buffers to interface this LCD PCB with the multi... sent it to fab...

...ooof

if this doesnt affect any part of your bussiness , im happy to receive the items and forward to you (small postage costs for goods)
I appreciate the offer. I think for now it is what it is, though maybe with the next multi I can have things shipped directly to an EU distributor

Nice looking... that 6295 oki also will be a good hint we will use good sfx sound samples using the multi . also nice crystals . will be the VG460 multi able to play new games beside the ones related ? only Twisted knows ! Praying to be
sorry to disappoint, but it will have pretty much the same game list as the VG420 multi. the VG460 hardware is nearly identical they just re-arranged the chips 😂
Both of these pcbs use the imagetek i4100 VPU and both of these multis support 100% of the games that used the imagetek i4100 VPU. The only slight difference between the game list on the multis is the Last Fortress versions since I'll be using the native 460 versions (which is the German release and the later revision JP release) rather than the 420 variants (China, Korea, and the earlier JP release)

As for the QFP chip, it's not an OKI, it's a CPLD that replaces 2 of the PALs I used on the VG420 multi. this is the major change between them.

the two crystals is because both the VG420 and the VG460 need to switch clock speeds based on the game. on the VG420 every PCB was equipped with a 24MHz, so the Multi added a 20MHz so it could swap between. But on the VG460 some games had a 24MHz and others had a 20MHz so I need to equip both to make it work with either donor. Technically there is a jumper designed on it so you could install one crystal or another and and set the jumper as to which one is equipped on your donor, or I can just equip both on the multi and ignore the crystal on the donor.

So far the working games are:
-Karate Tournament
-Lady Killer
-Last Fortress - Toride (Newer JP version)
-Last Fortress - Toride (German version)
-Sky Alert

I still need to work on:
-Pang Pom's
-Poitto

Right now I'm waiting on a little prototype PCB to test out the new CPLD circuit that I'd like to use for my multis going forward, and will be able to make more progress once that arives.

Also waiting on an updated version of the LCD selector which can be mounted on this and my future multis (and also the VG420 but will need a small 3D printed adapter)

Despite having like 3+ multis in the fire, they were on hold while I waited for a test PCB to get back from fabrication and I decided to put together another one.

I think this will be another one like VG420 where the people who have a suitable donor you can count on one hand, but I've always wanted to make this one.

I think that's it for starting new projects and now I've got finish some 😂

That’s mean ARCADE PROJECTS ? Blessing with Twisted’s releases in 2025 🤭

Would love to know what its for. ;)

I really love the simple bank-switch multis as opposed to the really complex multis with on-screen displays or other complicated stuff.

because the bank switchers are really no different than an easy way to do a ROM swap so it helps ensure that the games are running as close to original as possible. and the instant game switch without any loading is nice too.

The Rotary Switch is something I really like instead of dip switches on these simple multi kits, a simple 8 or 16 position knob is much more user friendly and nice looking than a bank of dip-switches.

It's been difficult to find these at a reasonable price though.

the Apem PT65 series is the one I'm using so far:
https://www.apem.com/media/apemProduct/PCB_serie_PT65_10_11_2021.pdf

It's a nice little switch but the price is damn near $15 which is robbery for what should be a <$2 part.

The only other models I've found with a nice "segment wheel"

the only other options I've found are:
1. Gray Hill 94 series:
https://app-grayhill-website-cms-prod-001.azurewebsites.net/media/xvhksa34/94h-datasheet.pdf
they sell the knob separate from the switch and once you buy both it's not much cheaper than the PT65, not to mention it's a much uglier looking switch.

2. E-Switch RDT series:
https://configured-product-images.s3.amazonaws.com/Datasheets/RDT.pdf
These actually have a reasonable price, but I can't find any evidence that the version with a segmentation wheel actually exists anywhere for sale.

searching around Alibaba the only evidence of any of these is this one listing which shows a picture of one of these switches:
https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...offerlist.normal_offer.d_title.410813a0njNhYq

there's no clarity on the listing on how to spec that version of the switch though, I've reached out to them for more info but haven't heard anything back in over a week now, so I have little confidence that anything will come from it.

Anyone else know of any other options here? it's be really great to find a <$2 option

I found this rotary switch in my stash (i purchased few years back with intention to use it on other selector , but that project is gone and will not be done) .
Is with 16 positions . Can be used on any of VG’s multis ?

I'm including the footprint for these on all of my multis if it's an 8-game unit though this will just cycle through the game list twice.
