UPDATED Release! NBA JAM Tournament Edition SE 5.02

I'm loving all the NBA Jam attention.

Got my custom NBA Jam cab with Riddled 8 way jamma switcher. Might just have to install NBA jam hangtime in it as well based on comments above.

Once we had hangtime installed at work, Jam never went back in. Only TE 2.0 got back in a few times as coworkers enjoyed the MK chars, but eventually all only played Hangtime. The coop gameplay items like double dunk and alleyoops are done very well and if you go back to jam/TE it feels like they are missing.

Fun fact, i think they saved these mechanics for Hangtime as there is an "alley oop' sound sample in test mode for TE.. but this feature is not implemented in TE at all.

You alley oop in Jam and TE by passing to a teammate already jumping towards the basket. They then have to use the shoot button after catching it to dunk. Obviously you need two human players on the same team to make it work.

Are you sure it's Jam and TE? I cannot start a dunk or 'jump towards the basket' (as if i have the ball) in these games.. The only two references to "alley" in the source code are commented, and the Alleyoop sound only plays in test mode. I think It's a red herring. You're describing Hangtime alleyoops exactly as i (ab)used them with human players in the arcade vs cpu.

What does happen is sometimes the player attaches to a rebound ball and dunks that quickly, in TE that could be seen as a alleyoop.

the alley oop was a new feature for Hangtime. or the double dunk. if you go to dunk in NBA Jam or Jam TE and pass, you just pass to the other player. they won't be coming up to dunk behind you. :) I honestly don't know the logistics of how it works in the Jams cause I've never tried it.

I remember doing alley oops on the snes version back in the day with my older cousin. I've never played the arcade version at all. Is it possible there's a Mandela effect from playing home versions? I'm thinking back then games really weren't ported from arcades to consoles and were essentially remakes/demakes to deal with limitations of consoles vs the superior arcade hardware of the day.

Release 5.02 came with alot of great features ! Thanks

Welcome to release 5.02 of this 'Special Edition'. It's taken quite some time to get to this point.
In fact, it took nearly 17 months since the original SE 5.0 edition. A personal (non-lethal) health issue caused
me to halt work on many of my projects and focus on other matters.

I've decided to slowly cherry-pick projects after getting some assistance of others who can work with me.
I know these kind of games do not appeal to an extremely large number of people. But, as i have stated before
i am not in it for money or fame. I just love this game, and many others from Midway. Playing it reminds me of
all the fun moments i had in arcades as a teenager.

I've updated the initial post with some more details. We welcome tests on real hardware at this point, you can play on Mame with the included ZIP file, it's set up to replace your normal jam. Please do a full factory restore from the CMOS menu! Even if the initial boot up says it did it, it does not do it cleanly all the time.

Thanks so much, this is incredible!

Is this a continuation of the Rewind hack or so different that they are different hacks at this point? Is there a good comparison chart where a user can use to make the best pick to burn the EPROMS?

Thank you!

Rewind is a romhack using clever hex edits and it's not done by me. I just did the protection hack.

This Special Edition is a full recompiled version done from source code. Nothing is "hacked" or hexedited, only some sound samples had to be injected with DocWallace OKI editor. It's got a lot more features that Rewind could never do because of this.

ROM CRC checks are fixed, so if you want to upgrade you can just drop the two program roms in (UG12/UJ12) any set and the game will show which roms need to be updated, from the test mode -> diagnostic tests -> CPU board test.

First post has updated rom burning notes btw. :)

@Asure does this have the ASIC defeat built in to play TE on reg JAM hardware? I tried burning UJ/UG12 and put them in a working reg Jam with scaler version 1.5 installed and it wont boot.
I didnt burn any other roms yet, I thought it should boot with just UJ/UG12 and possibly fail the rest, but wanted to make sure.
