FOUND Vewlix Marquee LED lights

Modern LEDs can be waay more efficient than the ones Taito put on these 15 years ago. You don't have to worry about draw or heat as long as you pick the right ones. I would definitely populate the bottom side too!

For the bottom, I was thinking RGB leds would be cool. Maybe the addressable type? and people can use their own controllers?

Agree on the modern leds being more efficient, but still need to take into account everything else that is being powered off that 12v psu in the cab.

So far this is what I will work up this weekend,
Top leds like the original, always on.
Bottom leds , definitely an on/off option. maybe dimmer? possibly rgb/adressable?

Once I have the board layouts complete we can add the upgrades, Im open to suggestions of course.

Did you use ACRYLITE™? I've been curious to buy some to mess with but haven't pulled the trigger.
I tried it and another brand, results weren't exactly like taitos but damn good/close, maybe even better.

Taito's also brings a reflective film around the opposite side of the leds to reflect the light back and intensify the effect, but that is almost always removed.

Order some and try it out, you can probably do some cool effects with it.

Ok, Im done with all 3 pcbs - added the bottom leds.

here is the right side pcb

As it stands with the leds I have chosen, the curent draw will be about 0.5amps on the cabs 12v psu. Now this is for 1 color leds in white.

Basics are done, now to see what "features" are added

I do know the bottom row of leds will need to at least have an on/off option and most likely a dimming feature.

Should these be switch to rgb?

Do I just provide the a connection to use one of those low cost rgb led controllers?

I’m personally not crazy with colors and would just do plain white and not mess with any colors.
Likewise, so first few of these will be all white leds. Ill add the option to connect one of these types of controllers to the bottom led lights or you can just wire them to be on all the time

Im about done with the pcbs and will order some test ones soon, just gotta go over all the numbers/calculation to make sure ll is good.

I don’t even have a vewlix yet, hopefully in a couple of months. What do the bottom leds do exactly? I’m sure I will see it when you show the test pcbs.

They should light up the see through, plastic Vewlix header. I'm not sure if anyone has actually tried it.

I personally love that idea!! It's perfect!

Perhaps this thread should be moved from the Marketplace section to somewhere more appropriate now that the discussion has evolved. :)

I agree entirely. A fantastic idea has come of it and needs a proper home.

Ok ordered a couple to see how these come out. Added the option to use a controller to the bottom leds. Will be sending a setup to a couple of people to test. Then Ill have this thread moved to a either a projects or sales section.

@Derick2k don’t forget about me please lol i need a kit for my DB and also idk if you remember my bulb for my FC broke ☹️.. if possible of course.

I'm interested in decking out my L-AMI with lights.
I can contribute some research money in addition to purchasing a finished design when ready.

Almost there guys, i ordered some pcbs to check for fitment and led selection, I added the bottom row of leds to light up the vewlix acrylic.

I have the instruction/move lighting worked out, so that's coming to, Im trying to make an as easy plug n play kit as possible.
