>thegreathopper : I'd not say it's stainless steel since there is always a lot of rust on them. As far as I know, stainless steel do not rust. Maybe it depend on the grade? Also, Ive try a magnet and it was attracted, so my deduction would be it's not stainless steel
I have three sets of them that I brought to the factory to chrome. The chrome looks good, but once the process's finished, the M4 flange nut do not fit to the steam anymore. The chrome process alterate the tread. Also, the steams are fragile, I already have broken one. So, I thought it would be possible to cut the head of a machine screw and solder it to the plate (stud). But for this I have to know the material which is used for the plate to buy the correct screw (stainless or 3cr, etc...).
