What's new
I think I fixed the sound problem, I threw a second voltage regulator on the reverse side instead of trying to power both sides with one and now it's stable.

e:Yeah I've done like 4 attract cycles and there's been no issues.

I agree with stencil + solder paste, that's the key to a really clean install. Although you still need to run jumpers for proms.

btw if you're looking for the proms this guy sells them extremely cheap. $7~ for 10. Everyone else does 5 for $15.

These are salavaged proms though, so you will have to erase them which adds some time when programming them.

Oh I almost forgot, thanks @MetalliC for posting detailed instructions how to do this. Now I just a need to pick up a Capcom I/O and I can play CVS2 with only one PSU.

That solder stencil technique is soooooooper clean and easy!

Well done @pzlate. You did it! BTW, did you use the new version of CvS2 that was recently dumped? And thanks for the ali-E link!

EDIT: NM, seems you extracted it from the MAME CHD's directly, right?

I dumped CAPCOM VS. SNK 2 MARK OF THE MILLENIUM 2001 (GDL-0008D) late April 2017 so you would need to have used the CHDs from MAME 0.186 or later.

I used the old version, mostly because I don't know what gameplay changes there are in the latest dump, if any.

I have already separated the latest CVS2 dump into 8MB chunks though, I'll probably try making that cart once my second batch of proms and carts get here. You don't need to grab the bin from the MAME CHDs, I just didn't have old CVS2 on hand and the neo-arcadia links are all dead.

I've left my game in attract for a while and it still volume spikes for a half a second like once every 10 loops. I might try sticking 0.1uf caps on all of the eeproms tomorrow to see if that clears things up. I'm using a cheap non-sun PSU with my Naomi so that could be part of the problem.

Right on. I have the neo-arcadia files on my work PC. Should be good there. Good call on using that version. It will be a while before we know what the differences are if any since CvS2 is played less these days. Who knows if they took out a critical play mechanic.

BTW, where in NorCal are you? Near the Bay Area or Central Valley or Sac?

I live in Sonoma County

e: I think adding 0.1uf caps to all of the eeproms worked. I might just leave it on overnight just to see if everything still works in the morning.

I wouldn't mind making you a cart (or just programming you a set of roms if you like) since that's probably why you're asking where I am, but not until I'm sure everything works perfect on my cart, and I think of a nice way to wire the bottom side super clean in a way that it won't be accidentally damaged since that part of the board is exposed all the time.

Ahh, k. Was going to offer to let that cart run on my system if you were nearby since I have a Sun PSU. See if that is what is messing with the audio (doubtful) But you are too far from me. Seems lots of progress has been made here which of course is very good. And the fact that you pulled it off with CvS2 with folks here say that Joerg refuses to convert a cart to just run CvS2 is a plus. Well done again sir.

recently dumped GDL-0008 is official English version. more common GDL-0007A is Japan ver, even if it have eng. translation (IMO not final) - it is not really indended to be used with US or EXP region BIOS.
gameplay changes - I think there is none.

But, I would still rather see Darksoft create a multi cart for the naomi.
No DS luv...

Yeah I've left this on for like 12 hours, no sound problems, no crashing. It just needed some 0.1uf caps on the proms, bypass caps fix everything!

Maybe the reason Joerg won't do CVS2 is because it's 18 flash proms, it's a lot of work and would cut into his profit margins. Anyway Metallic is mostly the one to thank here since he shared how to make the carts.

Uh... I've got a Joerg CvS2/MvC2 multi cart.
He can definitely do CvS2.

Right, he has it on a dual boot. But he doesn't have it on a single cart conversion. Someone mentioned that here on this thread.

That's weird, does he use a different cart type for the 2 in 1s? Since board I used only has space for 21 roms and CVS2 takes up 18.

Any 171-7919A board.
And for those of use who scour YAJ for goodies use the cart # instead of just relying on translations...

Another question, concerning MetalliC's mod of MvC2 with all the character's unlocked. Would it be possible to mod a single eprom on a genuine MvC2 cart to have all those character's unlocked by default?

That was the next thing I was going to do, was gonna seperate both and diff the files.

I made a video comparing cf vs battery vs cart booting times, cart gets in game before the dimm finishes checking memory. I'm not sure if it's $300 nice if I factor in the cost of a programmer/cart/proms, but I needed a programmer anyway..
