What's new
Anybody have a link or tool to "ReEncrypt" a file? If i can't sort it , i will just convert the few games for this one unit to use the same security key. ( i have one chihiro that doesn't have a network media board ) , and honesly booting from CF card it way easier for my dedicated cabs ( Ghost Squad, OR2 Twins ) then net booting. esp if linking.

If you mean the des encryption used on the images, it's symmetrical.
The same python tool that is used to decrypt the files can encrypt them again.

So it's just giving the tool the correct decrypted image and key and it will encrypt it again.

Basically, a netboot zero pic is just like a normal game pic but with the encryption key set to zero.

If the key is all zero's, the encrypted file is identical to the original one.

Funny thing, if i net boot the game, turn it off, switch it back to "GD ROM" Mode, turn it on without a CF Card

What do you mean with switching it back to GD-ROM mode ?

Made this ages ago, remember doing exactly what you want - encrypting files with a different key than original.

Turn off the system, move the Jumper from Net Boot to GD Rom, Connect CF Card with Zero Key BIN on it, turn it on, it boots up without issue ( since the Ram contents and the CRC match the CF Card... ) Totally wierd, need to post a video.

Looks like the latest version of GD-Rom Explorer has the Encyrpt & Decrypt Options now ( v1.6.3 )

@hamster it looks like you have a fully working setup, nothing wrong there.

Only thing which changes things for the worst is the PIC but only in GD-ROM mode.

I would try to seek out someone here close to you who can provide you with a new PIC.

@rtw, turns out, all the security keys worked fine, it was a combination of the walsdog cf adapters i was using not working with the chihiro and my cf cards.. i was able to get them to work with my original summit boards i hand assembled which is the same identical design , so who knows, works perfect using a monoprice CF -> IDE adapter on the dimm board inside the chihiro. thanks for your help. basically, if you get to the point where it loads the game and it errors out, its most likely bad CF card, or an issue with accessing the card.

I had an issue with my OEM card reader as well but my official SEGA one always works so I just went for that.

Glad to see that all is cleared up :D

@kioku25 transfergame.exe does not let you netboot without a PIC inserted.

If you use transfergame.exe without a PIC you will get:

ERROR 31

THIS GAME IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BY MAIN BOARD

I just verified this on my system :D
It's been years since I messed with those programs and my memory is a little hazy it seems. It was the python script naomi_boot.py that ran without a zero pic and not transfergames.exe.

I can't seem to find it in gakman's repository, but the internet archive has you covered.
With python installed you only needed to run the following command: python naomi_netboot.py gamename.bin.
damn i've been looking for this version of the script for years! I was doing some testing and could never get the thing working, turns out this version doesn't have the line of code with the connection timeout set which was tripping up the version I had...everything else is the same.

thanks for sharing!

@olum64

Which tool are you using to write to the CF ?

Have you tested and verified the DIMM in the setup menu ?

If your game tries to load 3 times it is a problem with the security sector.

I have had error 26 on some third party CF adapters but never on the original SEGA one.

If the Zero key is working on the Triforce and Chihiro we can rule that out.

Did you verify that power is OK on the NAOMI ?

It's a defective Option board, has nothing to do with the zerokey. I had a few popping out like that even without a key inserted or using real gd-drives. i have never found out a solution for these, changing the buffer, recap or clean and reseat went to no solution at all.
This almost happened to me while i was upgrading to 4.02 or swapping the bios after a 3.17 upgrade. Making sure there was proper solder or changing with a new LV160 did not change it too..
