What's new
Just received mine in two days!! What kind of deal have you struck with FedEx, @invzim? Just curious. Now I need to setup the sd card and pick one of my candy cabs to test it on.
For real, dont know what deal he has with FedEx, just want it not to change, cause price and speed are unmatched by any other international courier right now.

Mine came in as well today, that was quick!

I briefly tested it out and seemed to run into an issue where my MiSTer doesn't seem to turn on, in my cab, although the JAMMA Expander lights up. It may be because I bought a fully preconfigured MiSTer with addon boards, although I removed them and double checked that I configured the MiSTer itself correctly per the website instrcutions before installing it into the JAMMA Expander. I'm guessing it's either a preconfiguration related thing I need to change, or some other form of user error. I'll find out after tomorrow when I'm off work and have more time to tinker.

Most likely I'll buy a bare DE10 Nano and RAM just for the JAMMA Expander soon. I didn't expect to enjoy the MiSTer on it's own as much as I do, especially with the analog add on board. It feels so much simpler and faster than dealing with a Pi or other emulation based mini PC, particularly the menu and controller config.

Got mines today 😃

i wont be able to test or play with it yet as im in process of closing on a house and i started packing already 😵‍💫, in the bin it goes.

but just knowing its in my possession makes me excited still!!! 😁

Awesome, you wont be disappointed. Im trying to make a quick setup guide/video, but just haven't had the time. I have so much stuff going on right now with a new construction project. Covid has made things challenging for sure.

Oh remind me at some point early next week if you can about the replacement lighting for the vewlix, finally got the parts in, but I have to finish another project for a friend.

I haven't documented it yet, but there is a bunch of LED on expander to indicate power. JAMMA power is from your cab of course, the other power LED's are dependent on the DE10 turning on and speaking with the expander. Which LEDs light up on the Expander?

Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what happened (I was in a rush due to limited time), but I recall both LEDs for JAMMA power being lit, and the DE10 flickering briefly, but failing to power on. I will be more in depth on Friday (gah the wait is gonna kill me) when I finally have time to sit down and figure it out. The cab used was a Sega Blast City, and I did double check that my MiSTer wasn't faulty by powering and loading cores/games on it after it wasn't turning on when attached to the JAMMA Expander and Blast City.

In the near future, I will probably model up a enclosure for 3D printing if someone else doesn't beat me to it. Something similar to what I did for my Minimaid (a DDR focused USB to JAMMA PCB) a while back.

All the best luck with all your projects 😁.

A guide would be awesome, i never had a mister. Im sure its not rocket science to set it up but i like guides 😅.

trust me ill remind you about the light replacement 😁 (Thank You!!)

I got mine! I am very happy with it. I do wish it had a USB connector on it so I could connect a wifi dongle though. But, it was a mostly straight forward simple setup. I am happy to have a clean mister solution for my cabs finally!

One issue that I ran into that confused me is that I didnt realize it would be so sensitive to voltage variations. I connected it to my Astro City first and it worked right away. I moved it to my Blast City to test and only got a scrambled screen. The Blast had been running a CPS2 so the voltage was higher then what the Jamma Expander liked. Once I brought the voltage down and re-booted, it powered right up and is working normally. I would have assumed the sync guard block feature would have blocked the screen from displaying, but with the voltage a bit too high I guess it does not? I just figured I would share in case someone else sees a scrambled screen when setting up.

If the Expander senses >5.15 on Jamma Edge it will not boot properly, but instead halt and show voltage readings on the OLED. This is kind of an 'educational' feature.

The sync-block only blocks sync, not RGB, which is why you're getting the scrambled picture.

First draft of the gamepad mode page, https://irkenlabs.com/jamma-expander/operation-gamepad

Feedback & corrections from MiSTer gurus would be most welcome.

Almost forgot, to get 2 player to work (today) you need this in your MiSTer.ini
; Disable merging input devices. Use if only player 1 works.
; Leave no_merge_pid empty to apply this to all devices with the same VID.
no_merge_vid=0x8282
no_merge_pid=0x3201

This is a temporary thing, and will no longer be needed when the next release of MiSTer is released - it's already in the code:

Amazing product with such an easy set up. I was up and running in about 10 minutes. I will say that I originally had a cps1 board in my cabinet and just did a quick swap without even thinking about the voltages and was getting a scramble screen. I checked the voltages of the cps1 board connected and it was 5.01. Then moved over the the jamma expander and the voltage jumped to 5.16. Lowered it to 5.0 exact and now it's all good.

After a little testing I just noticed one issue with CPS2 Xmen Vs Street fighter. Character Zangeif has a lariat move that requires X3 Punch buttons to come out (Button 1+2+3). It is not consistent when I attempt to do this. It comes out maybe 10% of the time. With the same cabinet using cps2 hardware, I can get this 100%.

Can you try this outside your cab with a different controller, just to see if it's a MiSTer/Core issue or an Expander thing?

I just tested this outside the cabinet using a fightstick. X3 punch and x3 Kick buttons function properly.

EDIT: I just tested using gamepad mode on the expander and I don't have any issues with 3 punches registering. Looks like it only happens when I am in keyboard mode.

Sounds like everyone is having a good experience with the Mister and Jamma Expander.

I feel like getting a second one for myself if I can, not sure how Invzim is on stock on these, but Ill pass until the next batch so that others can get one.
If anyone is on the fence about getting one of these just get it, you won't be disappointed.

Sir did you had time to test it so far ? How it feels ?

Kudos for getting gamepad working :)
I would love to get details on how to reproduce the issue so I can do some tests. I got some help doing lag testing with a LED hooked up to a button and high speed video, and it was indistinguishable from real hardware (CPS2), that was a single button test though.

Psst. released :) Will announce it on twitter later, but you guys get first dibs 8)
Although they are all tested, I'm holding on to 10% of the boards for now as a contingency in case some boards have issues. Be a little gentle with the large capacitors on the board, one customer accidentally knocked one off - I'm doing a wiggle test and they seem ok, but it's not a through-hole part and will not withstand a lot of force.

Think I'm pretty much done with the website for now, there may be a tips&tricks page later - let me know if something is missing or should be added.
