I'm putting down some features that, while not deal breaker, would be cool to have:

• Region switch
• Cheats
• An in-game menu to reboot to another game
• An internal memory where to save high scores
• Carousel mode, where games' attract mode cycles
• A way to update the cart's firmware, so if there's stuff that doesn't work, we can update

Guys, why not both?

As I said before:

Dip switch with all the switches off -> on screen menu
Otherwise -> direct game boot

No one here wants just a dip switch without the possibility of having a menu.
Having both sounds pretty good, actually. I can even see myself setting the dips to whatever game I happen to be playing and not bothering with the menu until I beat it(or more likely, get frustrated at my sheer overwhelming amount of suck and choose something else), and then simply swatting the dips to 00000000 to reset.

Oh, hey! Why not have the dip code BESIDE each game on the menu, and only have the dip settings read on startup? That way you can set it while in the menu to the game you want to play.

And as far as cheats are concerned, why not just make it compatible with Razoola's UniBIOS?

... What....just happened here?
Nothing. You can research on Neo if you want. Razoola is the reason this forum exists. And not in a good way. Not going to get into it here. My above statement was meant as a joke but the animosity towards him is not.

No reason the cart wouldn't work with the unibios but we will not be doing Raz any favors. And we could care less what Raz thinks of this project. I'm sure Darksoft feels the same.

Now....back on topic. Keep your suggestions coming.

Im not sure if its possible or not, but it would be cool if the cart could have a built in virtual memory card. Since the guy who makes the VMCs isnt making them anymore and doesnt plan to release the schematics.

Who is also posting in this thread ;)

I'm happy with his memory cards. I do wish I'd ordered a VMC when they first came out, though. I planned to but some life shit happened and I forgot about them until it was too late. Oh well.

It's his creation and his property, so he can decide what's done with it. It's not like anyone could just whip up the card even if they had the schematics. It's a complex design with custom parts, and he sold them at a great price.

Having an option to autoboot the first rom a la gdemu would be fine, that actually works pretty well. As long as:

1) menu rom will be tiny
2) smaller roms flash faster

Unfortunately if it's a 'rom' based solution, we couldn't then quick-start the last rom we played, as we can with an everdrive - since we'd just wiped it with the menu rom. It's quite nice having the option to quick-play :/

but we could use 1 dip switch: load menu rom, load last rom and either gamepad combo or button brings us to menu any way ...

LOL no its not, its 3 ICs, a RAM IC, 5 resistors, and two sockets on a double sided PCB. I was going to take mine apart and copy the PCB but someone else is already working on another solution that doesnt require you to use a jumper wire on pin 6 from the DRZ chip to the VMC.

I just think its stupid that if he isnt going to be making them anymore then atleast share the info with the rest of the world.

Of the top of my head I can remember the ICs being.
1.) Logic Bus Driver
2.) Hex Inverter
3.) ??

and the Ram was F-RAM i think.

All easily obtainable from your favorite electronics supplier.

EDIT:

Also I might be wrong on this, but I believe I recall reading that the initial design for the VMC was from someone else? So it might just be that it isnt his to give away.

Anyways back on topic.

Wow, ok.

I never said I wouldn't release the schematics. I just ignored you when you asked me in my email. I told you in my email I would post an announcement at some point. That should have been a clue that I wasn't ready to announce anything.

I will be open sourcing my NBM project so the world can do what the please with it. The VMC design isnt 100% mine to give away. The NBM was my invention, I added the VMC to it later from DavidG's schematics. This is well documented on the neo forums.

It actually hurts a bit to here you say I "suck" or am "stupid", when every single project I have created and sold has been in the Neo communities best interest. I kept prices extremely low so everyone could afford them. And you don't appreciate it or think it's enough. Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. I'll be posting a lot of my projects on the NeoDev wiki at some point, all with open source licenses.

Hope that's enough for you.

The "comment" was being playful not hateful. Nobody is denying what you did for the community.

Anyways, If you read my statement above yours, I mentioned that it "might not be yours to give away". So even there I wasn't bashing you.

I'm only butting in to say it didn't seem like a playful comment. Print humor doesn't translate all that well.

Let's try to keep it respectful at all times. Nobody here wants drama or hurt feelings. NTM, thank you for the clarification.

A winky smile makes all the difference in message board context when it comes to things like that. ;)

At any rate, lets not veer off topic.
