What's new
My new Naomi 2 board arrived! All is working beautifully! However, the 2020 multibios i got will not change from Japan...
Despite whatever I flip the dip switches to. Anyone know what may be up with this?? I've tried switching it to both USA and KOR but no luck with either change...
Does it need to be set up from a menu or something after changing the dips? Thank you!

Edit -

Ugh. I should know better than to pre-maturely celebrate at this point.
So all is well -except- now there are these flickering pink squares anytime i boot up the N2... Any idea what these are as well as the multibios issue?
Going into the Test menu makes the screen flicker as well.
Thanks y'all.

Edit 2 -

Recorded a video of how it boots up now.
It will either do the pink flashing squares or slow down to crawl (with audio intact) and flash black squares just as slow.
(the pink squares don't look as if they're flashing due to the framerate of the capture but i promise they are.)

I've tried this with both the old multibios that it came with and the new 2020 multibios i installed and neither boot to the proper region when set from the dips still.

RAM problem. Unfortunately, a very common issue with Naomi 2. Try doing a RAM test in the service menu. It will likely hang.

Understood... Thank you. sigh. One thing after another.
Time to get another refund. jfc.

So it began hanging around IC17 and IC19 with IC16 declared BAD outright.
I saw some saying this can happen by pumping too much voltage into the N2 but I've never cranked this guy past the 5v mark.
And like I said it was also working just fine the first few tests. In fact I witnessed the moment it started checkerboarding. I had it sitting in the test menu looking for options to change the bios (if there was any) I stepped away to help a customer, looked over, and just as my eyes met the screen it started doing it...
I hadn't touched the voltage at all and it was sitting at 4.95v or so when it all went down. Also wasn't sitting in the test menu for too long. As if that could be a bad thing.. Iduno.
Getting really bummed at this point.

Any idea about the 2020 multibios not budging from Japan either? No matter how much I dig I can't find anyone facing this issue as well...
It was doing this even before the checkerboarding problem.

Went ahead and shot Ken from irepairsega a message about getting the ram replaced. Thankfully he's pretty close so the shipping shouldn't be too big of a deal.
Might have him go ahead and recap it too since these look to be the original set. Now waiting on ebay for a second refund from a second con artist.

i dont like ebay,
"untested" means - i tested it and it was fucked!
:(
Oh certainly. But both of my N2s were from sellers saying "Tested/Working!"

Both have had major issues lmao.
Would have bought much more local but I've been in such a crunch now to get my Blast on and not looking like a big eyesore in the middle of my store...
I've been in a constant "fuck it..." mindset for better or worse lol. Just desperate to get things working.

So Ken got back to me and I explained how the box arrived to me for this new N2 (bad shape, box squished in, almost nothing from keeping it bouncing around) and said it's more than likely an issue with vga ram i think he said? possibly needing some reflow work in the case something broke free during the messy shipping...

Also also was told the multi bios i was sent was probably flashed with the wrong information but the fact both of the multi bios i have won't change from japan speaks more of an issue with the naomi... but i'm sending him both just to see.

maybe the dipswitches are bad, i'v had faulty ones a number of times.
easy to test with a meter though.

here's a tip, not naomi related.
if you see dipswitches that are white with multi-coloured switches from the 80's or 90's - dont trust them.
i have had to replace so many of those bitches that i test them every time i see any!

Man I'm so sorry you've had such a bad experience with the Naomi system.

My experience with the cf system hasn't been great, but it's down to crappy compact flash cards. As long as I use SanDisk, I get no issue what so ever.

Naomi 2 seems more sensitive than Naomi 1 in my experience.

As for your bios, I can't see why it wouldn't change, if all dips are down, it should be japan, if. Ds2 is up, it should be US and if ds3 is up, it should be export.

I really hope it gets fixed soon. Are you able to avail of the buyer protection and get partial if not full refunds from the sellers?

I guess that could be the issue... I wouldn't be surprised if they also broke loose during shipping. like. i'm serious about how badly this dude packed it...
picture attached is just a moment after i opened it because i knew it'd be evidence in case i needed a refund...
I'll run that by Ken as a possibility too though. tysm!

It's okayyy.. Just amazed I have not been able to catch a break since starting this venture haha.

I saw others have issues with various cf cards... all the ones i had tested would load just fine with this new N2 at least...
I guess Axun is pretty aware of only certain cards working since I only have ones he flashed for me.

I've also seen others mention that... Early on my perception was like "newest version and cool black/grey shell" but if I knew what I did now I'd restart with an N1.

I had tried various positions just to make sure it wasn't just the USA setting. KOR and EXP also default to Japan... for both the new and old multibios...

Thank you, pal... I'm sure it will be soon enough. Just wish I could have found somebody within the US for this new one. I'm sure the transit wouldn't have been so strenuous.
At the very least... Currently going through paypal for that first refund still, Ebay gave the go ahead to get them involved though so it's looking like it'll turn out in my favor.
With this new seller I'm still DMing him and sending proof...

most of us have dealt with assholes who cant pack stuff,
the worst i had was a bunch of vfd displays loose in a box - one had got smashed!
second-worst - but only by luck, some fuck put a gameboard in a giant padded envelope!!!

best packing was from german sellers, they wrap multiple layers of bubble-wrap, then use a box lined with crushed-up balls of newspaper!

Wow at that packaging. Surprised that the heatsinks hadn't come off.
I was amazed there was nothing floating around inside the box in general.
The box itself was trashed and I had zero hope upon seeing it on my door step lol.

yeah i generally have a great experience with german and jp sellers! always including little extras like candy and very sweet thank you notes.
on top of already excellent and thorough packaging.

Long time no see y'all. Hope everyone is well...
Sorry I haven't updated... My shop was burglarized a day after getting the repaired N2 and had to be a bit more attentive to those matters lol.

But it's good ol' good news bad news time again...
The good news is Ken is a saint and did an excellent job with my repair. The N2 now works wonderfully.
Bad news... Well it was working wonderfully. But now regardless of where I tweak the voltage... I consistently get error 22.
Which of course tells me now my Axunworks netdimm is now faulty and possibly had been contributing to previous problems before as well...
So I've reached out to him since I believe I'm still under warranty. But no response yet...

As a backup....
I was wondering If anyone has experience with the NaoChiTri and is this the official way to pick one of these projects up? I found the arcademodbios website but there's no links to products just images of the products... Oh and would anyone happen to have a spare Naomi Netdimm for sale? of course with firmware set to work with netloaders...

Thanks much as always.

hello that is your ebay sales page of Arcademodbios

https://ebay.com/usr/hoellentaucher1515

and basically I shop there. although some of his products which do not appear on his ebay page you can send him a PM and ask about a discontinued product. Sometimes you have them and other times you don't.

Oh okay awesome ty! How is the operation/build quality? I just noticed they have a netdimm naochitri bundle which I think I may just grab...
Wanted to know if it's worth it but sounds like you'd recommend their stuff. That little android app that allows you to change games on the fly seems super convenient.

Was looking in this thread and I may not be pumping enough voltage into the 3.3v line...
I've only tried between 3.20-3.30 to be safe. They recommended to pump 3.4v to the line... Sound okay? A bit nervous about that...

I recommend you buy this power supply, I have one installed in my naomi 2 and nothing to say, it works wonderfully and is stable.

QP-200-3A
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLl0kMO

This power supply regulates all voltages with separate potentiometers +5V, +3.3V, +12V, -5V

although a computer power supply is cheaper and enough to power your Naomi

If I were in your shoes, I'd push it to 3.4v.

Sorry to hear about your shop and the constant drama you're having with this setup.

If you were local, I would've given you a helping hand already :)
