Been waiting patiently for these kits to come in over at VGP for awhile now.

https://videogameperfection.com/products/cps3-digital-interface/

Sent emails inquiring about them to Matt over there and he let me know that he did not know when more would be coming in.

I went to the creator's (Kenzy) website to see if there was any additional information. I sent emails and tried searching for Kenzy everywhere. (Kenzy come home we miss you!)

https://www.lovegood.dev/2020/07/cps3-qsb-for-cps2digiav.html

Weeks and months went by and I decided that I had 2 options. Either make them or......

wire the CPS3 up manually

(gross).

So.....

I am on like revision 5 at this point and I have spent a small fortune so far (for me anyway). I am setting my sights on Ultra SIMMS next...... Just kidding @Darksoft - this s$@t is a pain and I cannot imagine what kind of work you have had to put in to your projects - nothing but respect.

The good news is that Matt at VGP recently informed me that there may be some new stock coming in soon! I guess this is like when you wash your car and then it decides to rain.

EDIT

Happy New Year everyone!!!

As promised here are the BOM and Gerbers for these PCBs. Do with them as you wish! Please improve upon my work and help the community.

Settings I used for part 1
Layers : 2
Material : FR-4
PCB Thickness : 0.6 mm (this helps for being able to solder to the chips on the CPS3 - you might be able to get away with 0.8 )
Surface Finish: HASL(with lead)
Half-cut/Castellated holes :Yes (castellated holes is a requirement!)
Tented vias: Yes (helps to cover anything on the backside of this board since it will be placed directly on the CPS3 (prevent shorts)

Settings I used for part 2
Base Material: FR-4
Layers: 2
PCB Thickness: 1.6mm
Surface Finish: HASL(with lead)

If you really want to go crazy - do enig finish for both parts

Love this!

Had experienced exactly the same journey and reached exactly the same conclusion.

Many of these (awesome) projects have a lifecycle, at the end of that lifecycle they are sometimes abandoned.

Amazing that you have been able to bring this one back to life.

It works. No issues. I don't like the shielded cables I am using but that's a personal preference. Everything is working just fine. Have to hook up the buttons still.

Make sure you 3 three sets of pads or sounds will NOT work.

I covered the bottom of the board with kapton tape to make sure there were no shorts.

I used this to secure the CPS2 Digital AV. Apparently if left unsupervised this may kill your kids.

BRAVO!

I anyone is interested in a kit just let me know. I am trying to gauge interest. Please send me a DM. I will reach out to you in a week or so to get your shipping information. Please consider this a work in progress. I will be posting the source files by the end of the year. I am sure someone will improve upon my work and make a MUCH better kit. Please note this is NOT a full kit - meaning it will not have everything you need to install the CPS2 Digital AV in to your system. It will contain what you see here:
kit.jpg

You will need additional parts to complete a full installation. Please review the CPS2 Digital AV github here for more information:

https://github.com/marqs85/cps2_digiav/blob/master/board/cps3/doc/install.md

I will get final pricing once I gauge interest - as prices depend on how many people want to purchase.

Hey guys just wanted to answer some questions that I have been getting.

You will need to purchase a coaxial cable. The one I used is from here:

https://a.co/d/iqLemEg

You will also need some 30 gauge wire for one of the clock signal (C2). I used enabled 30 gauge enameled wire but this one might work as well:

https://a.co/d/fxfeczm

I also used some kapton tape for insulating and some 3m adhesive to stick things together.

kapton:

wire:

You also need to get the VS and HS signals off the bottom of the board. The github instructions show the older revision board that uses an add-on.

https://github.com/marqs85/cps2_digiav/blob/master/board/cps3/doc/install.md

My board used a built in chip (newer revision). Attached shows the wire colors for each and what pins to solder to on the chip.

It is not an easy install but the kit makes it much easier.

I hope this all helps everyone.

Just to be sure. Besides what is listed above are any headers needed or if I ordered a vanilla cps2 kit that would be all that is needed besides your kit.

I can throw a couple of these in the kit.

I ordered some spares from AliExpress a while back. They usually come with the CPS2 kit.

To hook up this kit to the CPS3 you must connect to the following on the CPS2 Digital AV:
You will need to install R7+R8 (2x10k 0603 SMD resistors) and SW1 (TL2243). SW1 can be substituted via 2pcs external buttons of which one end is connected to GND and other end to vol+/- pads. That is standard for all of the cps2 kits though if you are using them with your own separate buttons.

C1 (clock on the back of the board - you need to purchase some coaxial cable for this - I listed a link above for it)
C2 (another clock signal - use enameled or very small wire for this - I listed another link for some 30 gauge that may work)
HS and VS (I think I used 28 gauge wire for this - I did not provide a link but I would think almost everyone should have this. I used blue and green wire on my install for this)
GND and PWR wires (I used some slightly thicker gauge wire for this (26ga?) Just keep your leads short to keep resistance low - I did not provide a link for this)
R0-R4 / G0-G4 / B0-B4 / BCK / WS / DAT / and a GND are all included with my kit. (of course)
You will need two small jumper wires to connect WS and DAT from my board to the CPS2 Digital AV...It is literally like 5-7mm or so away? (see pic)

You will also need to Bridge SMD jumpers J3, J5 and J6 on top side of the CPS2 Digital AV PCB

All of this is in the GitHub guide for installing on the CPS3.

https://github.com/marqs85/cps2_digiav/blob/master/board/cps3/doc/install.md

One more thing - this is very important. You WILL have to flash your board with the CPS3 firmware. Here is where you can download the file:

https://github.com/marqs85/cps2_digiav/blob/master/board/cps3/output_files/cps2_digiav.jic

You can follow the instructions to flash it from here:

https://retrostuff.org/2020/03/29/capcom-cps2-digital-av-interface-firmware-update/

This requires that you to complete the installation and hook up the CPS3 to power AND turn it on in order to perform the flash. You will also need to own an altera USB Blaster.

I hope this helps answer your questions.
