What's new

So whats next on the list of multis?

CAVE1000 is good.. so that we can use the Multi to actually play without worrying that something happens to the ridiculously overpriced original PCB :)

no interest on system16 or model 2/3 Or cave1000?
As I said before... System16 has lots of iconic, great games, but, at least for me, it would be more a matter of convenience since you can just swap the ROM chips to change game.

Cave1000 though... that would be really interesting.
My only argument would be that if we need a Cave1000 board to use the multi it's going to be an extremely pricey option.
I'm not one to spend 1000€+ on a game.

Model2/3,I'm not personally interested in them, aside from the racing games which I'll never probably play on original hardware as I don't have the space to put a racing cab.

CPS1 is the dream. Cave would have to be a full repro to be accessible though right? If it was a full repro it would be amazing.

Either option = "shut up and take my money!"

But to play all System 16 games you need a minimum of 4 boards:

System 16A for Fantasy Zone, Alex Kidd and Action Fighter (at the very least you need Fantasy Zone)

System 16B main board and at least 2 revisions of ROM boards as not all games are supported on all ROM boards.

I'm all over a CV1000 multi assuming it doesn't need an already insanely rare and expensive original board to connect it to

Oh man, you gotta tell us if cave1000 would be a repro or not! I'll even retract my previous ask for the I credible Technologies multi if you let us know!

The question is : is a CAVE1000 feasible from a technical point of view according to current affordable technologies ?

True for Action Fighter and Alex Kidd, there's a Time Attack version of FZ for the System16B, though.

AFAIK, all the games are compatible with the base 5704 ROM Board (which is what I have and been using so far and have yet to find a game which doesn't run on it).

There is nothing special on the Cave1000 except the iconic SH3 CPU. If Darksoft can source those from China or whatever then it's feasible.

System 16 games are afortable and could be revisited in the future.. CAVE should be well received and broke ass gamers like me will be sacrificing chikens to the GODs..CPS1 would be second in line after CAVE:)

System16 would be cool, but I already have all the games I care about.
Sure it would be nice to drop down to a single board, but not really needed in my case.

Then again I could order up 6x System16 multi kits and sell 5 complete boards (after the kits sell out as to not compete with DS/Mits).

I wonder what a Cave Multi would do to the prices of the original boards...

I guess that would depend if you needed an original board or not for the multi.
If an original board is required, Cave games will be worth more than their weight in gold. Doubt DS would make a solution that would be so unattainable.

Question that has probably been asked before but TL;DR -- Will the CPS1 include all the 1.5 games as well like Caddies and Punisher?

IF it included support for them on the multicart, you would still be required to use a 1.5 motherboard.
The 1.0 A-boards lack the Q-Sound chips for the proper audio (a poorly hacked China ROM exists that runs on 1.0 hardware albeit with improper audio).

Interestingly enough the CPS2 A-boards have the sound chips needed, but other hardware differences means the ROMs would have to be reworked.
I believe @Asure made some progress with getting Punisher running on the CPS2 multicart?

A fully working 1.5 conversion ROM (for CPS2 hardware) while possible, is beyond the skills of "almost" everyone.

Bootlegs of Caddies and Punisher run into Aje's CPS1 multi but not official ones because of the Q-Sound.

I would definitely buy a model 2/3 and cave1000

as others have said though, if the cave1000 requires an original PCB it will likely be way too expensive.

I like shooters, they aren't my goto but I like them, esp the classics (R-Type/Lifeforce).
That being said, in my mind the biggest problem with a potential Cave multi...

Its nothing but shooters!

A good candidate for a multi must have a good selection of games, not one type of game and nothing else.
I know, I know... CPS3 right?

The CPS3 multi is the only multi that violates this guideline (as CPS3 had nothing but fighters)...
However with just 3 major franchises appearing on the hardware it no wonder/hard to fault Capcom here.

Yes this post is coming off anti-Cave, and that's not really how I intended it.
IMO it's just a poor choice for a multi.
