Introduction

I bought this Konami Sauroid off a nice fella on the other side of Florida from me. He purchased it at an auction 20+ years ago. It was pulled from Disney World Orlando. This is a showcase cabinet that I don't think saw wide distribution and I cannot find a whole lot about it.

From what I have gathered it was introduced in North America as a Lethal Enforcers II cabinet with two guns. In Japan it saw limited release as a 2~4 player cabinet and a Bishi Bashi game with corresponding panel.

Here is a flyer:

Would love to get that bench seat :)

Now onto my cabinet.

The cabinet was sold to me with the screen "not working". As of this point I haven't turned it on because I plan to pull the boards and do the usual recap and look for any singed components. Continuity tests and checking all the easy stuff first like fuses.

Pedestal:

Looks in good shape. The control panel is sunburned as expected. Hoping everyone's favorite boy @alberto1225 can make me some custom panels :) During some googling I found out a user who I think is @codecrank made a 3 player bishi bashi reproduction panel. If you ever find this, hook a ninja up!

Guns are in good condition overall. Just need a cleaning really.

The pedestral is made of wood with laminate on top. The dirt will come off easily with krud kutter. If need be I can always Bondo the edges to get rid of the chewed up look.

Funny enough there are 4 coin returns but you only see 1 coin slot.

There was no lock or coin bucket down below. I didn't look too hard but I didn't see a coin counter either.

The back side you can see an access panel to the pedestal. Don't mind the konami cabinet, that's just a plexi glass that cracked.

Note in the flyer picture above there is a green topper marquee that should go here. I do not have that piece. Eventually I'll custom make something as there is a space for it here.

Underneath the pedestal it flips up to reveal spaces for 4 coin mechs! I really want to get a 4 player panel made for this cabinet! What's funny is that in building my game room (coming soon) I was missing a gun game and a 4 player cabinet from my arsenal. This cabinet, while huge, fulfills both roles! I will happily accept this in the place of 2 separate cabinets.

If anyone knows off hand what this coin mech is and where I can get similar that would be neat. While not mandatory for a free play arcade, if cheap enough I might spring for them. I think some games DO require the use of 4 coin mechs tho right? Like turtles?

Sorry for blurry pic but the barcode says "Lethal Enforc". The screen burn tells me this was how it lived it's life as well!

Behind the pedestal we open the panel via 4 screws to reveal the wiring to the panel and a funny looking coin chute.

The bottom plate is pure steel painted in purple. You can see a plastic housing running along it with the wires from the pedestal to the monitor. This thing does come apart for easier transport. It DOES have wheels but I will need to lubricate them as they were sitting for 20 years and were at first hard to get moving. I am gonna decide long and hard on where this thing is gonna go before dismantling it and putting it in its final resting place! It was heavy as #%$# to move. Three of us had to load it onto a uhaul trailer via a ramp. The flyer says it is 815 pounds or 370 kg! I do think the construction is very solid and while the monitor does look like it may wobble I can assure you it is pretty damn sturdy!

Power Supply

I will have to look deeper at this power supply at another time but if anyone knows off hand what it might be I am all ears. The boards all come out easily on sliding boards. Going forward it must be noted that while this cabinet looks daunting, it's actually REALLY convenient to get to everything!

Main body and speakers

Removing the side plastic panel was easy, just some JIS screws. This is what was behind. Simple wooden box. Man if it were that easy to take all candies apart that would be great. Just building a wooden box then bolting on some plastic side panels for the curvy sexy candy look is genius! There are only 3 pieces to take off. Two side panels and the speaker grill with small marquee. That's it!

I have already dropped those pieces off at my trusted autobody guys shop where they will be color matched proper and sprayed with the sticker left intact. :)

The top of the cabinet has a easy access door for the lightbulb area. Not familiar with this size but it's small. It is missing the bulb and the starter.

Nice big speakers!

Easy access door.

Monitor

The back of the cabinet has nice access to the monitor chassis area and also down below access to the power plug area.

Lots of room to work on the chassis from the back panel.

BTW THIS MONITOR IS ROTATABLE!!! :O :O :O

I am told TAXAN is not a good brand of chassis?

20230130_140949.jpg

Sharp tube. There is screen burn so a tube swap would be nice. Not counting on finding something this big ever tho. :(

After I clean it I will take better pictures but for now any known issues or tips with this chassis would be helpful.

It's two parts?

Down below we have another access door for all the incoming power wires.

Going forward any help is appreciated. I have many other projects I am finishing up and other huge announcements coming soon before I can get to this. Hopefully the monitor is something simple. I have never worked on a Taxan chassis so tips and tricks welcome!

Congrats on this rare beast!
Looking forward to the resto.

Incredibly happy you were able to rescue this bad boi. Looking forward to the progress pics!

I want to add that I think the distance to the screen from the pedestal is perfect. Wihtout having tried anything yet but still sitting in front of it I can tell it's the perfect distance for gun games so as not to be a duck hunt cheating bit%$ but close enough where any joystick games are still easily enough to see whats going on with this 39" tube. :)

Grats on the purchase. Will be keen to see how this turns out. Looks like a beast of a machine!

That service panel is dope.

It looks like a command center with all those buttons and remote board attached to it

Absolutely nuts, congrats. Keep that Disney World sticker, that's some interesting lore/pedigree for the cab!

The coin mech looks to just be a plain old plastic Imonex... they're solid mechs. I think you can just use any old mech, doesn't need to be that one.

What a beauty! Great score!

Super cool that you snagged this guy, definitely one for the books! Cant wait to see how the resto goes!!! Florida represent

Yeah glad it stayed in Florida! And it's in great hands. Kavas does amazing restoration work on his games and I'm sure this will be well taken care of!

that thing in insane ! looking forward to see it in action :D
@nem linked my thread with the link to my gdrive, the cad files and artwork you need you make whatever replacement panel is in there. forgot i posted about it lol

i had suggested the seller look to the candy groups, when I saw it it FB....

I'm so glad one of our people got it, and that it went to a great home.

Seems like a great candidate for a 4p setup for Konami TMNT/SR/XMEN/MM/ etc.

Kavas, I know you'll do this proud!

@Kavas - Just realized I missed the question you had about the coin mech.

Imonex is the brand, and they make mechs in variety of dimensions, from .882, .900, and .984 token sizes to actual quarters (also seen as .950 mech).

You'd have an easier time of using the "any token" 3d printed mechs, although they don't make as original a sound (for purists) they will take any coin/token you feed em.

If you decide to get real intense, the mech holders pictured should even hold asahi seiko mechs for 100 or 50 yen, if you can find em.

If I can help anymore here, let me know, but this should get you covered.

https://imonex.com/products/v9-and-v92-series/

You'd be looking at the V9 series, btw.... not the v92, and you can probably find them at Suzo happ, or betson, without much issue.
