CPS A-Board Differences

You might want to add it to the list in your first post then.
The first post is about A-board difference, not b-board differences. I mean B-board differences is a whole other topic altogether if you want to start one yourself for that, by-all-means please do, but I don't want to go any further than the A-boards for the sake of this topic.
Can anyone point me towards an explanation on b board differences and how to identify? Thanks

i know this is dumb but where is the silkscreen? is it this number?
no, those are just the ROM numbers.

the PCB number is usually on the parameter of the PCB, but it's not always in the same spot:

The B-board most commonly used in conversions is the 4MB Mask ROM Type.

@Apocalypse has indicated his multi will be a full B-board replacement, and run clean/unpatched ROMs by dynamically recorrecting addresses on the fly.

If you are looking for this (4MB Type) B-board, I'll sell you a (patched ROM/conversion) Captain Commando just the B (you'll need to pair a SF2 CE A/C-board with it).

I don't know much about the B-Board differences but the model should be silk-screened right on them.

MAME source identifies which games use which B-Board: https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/drivers/cps1.cpp
this helped alot!
recently acquired some old stock testron quicken chips and the instructions specifically state they will only run on a "b17 board", as in the b number on top of the ppu- i finally saw the relationship between the revision number and the corresponding number in the sixth column of this list.

Could you share a hi-res picture of this ? Maybe using imgur instead ?

Or just scan it?
Yes, will do. Haven't even received it in the mail yet.

That's really cool to see that piece of history. Thanks for posting that!

Interesting that they note you can return the default set and request the correct set if your C board isn't a CPS-B-17.

And, what is "Super New"? I want Super New!

It's a manual for a hacked rom for SF2 kind of like rainbow. Basically they shipped the kit expecting B-17 since it was the common form for SF2:WW and if you didn't have B-17 you could send the roms back to have the proper ones for your C board.

^I understand that. I'm referring to the trademark note at the bottom of the page stating "Quicken and Super New are trademarks of Testron, Inc.". This seems to imply that Super New is another hack of some sort.

this is what I was thinking, "Super New", hmmm. A new mystery.

One last thought, has anyone ever seen NOS Rainbow or Red Wave sets that look like they came from Hung Hsi Enterprises???

I have a few bootlegs from Hung Hsi but no Rainbow or Red Wave. Mine are all some weird intermediates from their first "licensed" Taiwan versions up to before Rainbow.

Just read this interesting thread as I am sorting out all my Capcom PCBs ATM. This is for confirmation only, I bought a new Electrocoin Xenon SFII CE cab back in '92 from Electrocoin and I can confirm that the Euro PCB (World?) is on a 12MHZ A board
