Hey everyone!
I’ve been exploring the idea of producing a brand-new, injection-molded plastic enclosure for Capcom CPS-1 arcade boards, inspired by the original Capcom cases, particularly the one used for Varth: Operation Thunderstorm.
The goal is to create a high-quality, durable, universal CPS-1 case capable of housing both the long and short board revisions, while maintaining that authentic Capcom arcade aesthetic.
This would not be a simple 3D-printed enclosure. The intention is to manufacture these cases using professional plastic injection molding, similar to how the original Capcom cases were produced.
THE CONCEPT
The current idea is to develop a universal enclosure with features such as:
The design is NOT limited to the original Varth enclosure. I simply believe it’s a great starting point and likely a design many collectors would appreciate.
I’m completely open to changes, improvements, or even an entirely different design if the community feels there’s a better approach.
CURRENT PROJECT STATUS
This project is still in the early research and concept phase.
There are many technical details that need to be researched, tested, and finalized before moving forward.
Injection molding requires a substantial upfront investment, particularly when it comes to designing and manufacturing the molds themselves.
Before committing to that investment, I’d like to better understand whether there’s enough interest within the arcade community to make this project financially feasible.
COMMUNITY INTEREST & PRICING
This is where I’d really appreciate everyone’s input.
1. Would you be interested in purchasing a professionally injection-molded CPS-1 case?
2. What would you realistically be willing to pay for one?
3. How many cases would you potentially purchase?
One for your favorite CPS-1 game? Or several to protect your collection?
4. What features would you consider absolutely essential?
Are there specific design elements, mounting solutions, ventilation requirements, or other improvements you’d like to see?
5. Would anyone be interested in helping with the project?
I’m also looking to connect with anyone who might be willing to contribute in any way, whether through:
Any contribution, big or small, would be greatly appreciated.
THE GOAL
Ultimately, I’d love to create something that the arcade community can be proud of.
A case that not only protects these increasingly valuable CPS-1 boards but also gives them the professional appearance and protection they deserve.
I’m not looking to rush this project. I want to do the research, understand the costs, gather feedback, and determine whether there’s enough demand to move forward.
The images attached are early concept renders only and do not represent a finalized product.
If there’s enough interest, I’d love to explore taking this project from concept to reality.
So, what do you guys think? Would you buy one? What would you pay? And what would you change or improve?
Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts, suggestions, and ideas!

THE CONCEPT
The current idea is to develop a universal enclosure with features such as:
- Universal Compatibility: One case designed to accommodate both long and short CPS-1 board configurations, potentially using interchangeable internal mounting brackets.
- Original Capcom-Inspired Design: Taking inspiration from the original Varth enclosure while incorporating modern improvements.
- Improved Ventilation: Properly positioned ventilation openings to help with airflow and heat dissipation.
- Optional Cooling Fan: Exploring the possibility of incorporating a fan mount for additional cooling.
- Secure PCB Mounting: Proper internal mounting points to safely accommodate the CPS-1 board stack.
- JAMMA Accessibility: Ensuring the connector remains properly positioned and accessible.
- Authentic Appearance: A clean, professional finish that complements original Capcom hardware.
The design is NOT limited to the original Varth enclosure. I simply believe it’s a great starting point and likely a design many collectors would appreciate.
