Darksoft Neo Multi Help thread

Hi,

I'm experiencing some audio issues with my Analogue Slim CMVS (MV1C board). In some games, the audio plays way too fast—this also happens with the music on the Neo Geo loading screen.

You can see an example here:

I've had the Neo Geo inspected by two different technicians. Neither found any faults on the board and both suggested I check the multi-cart instead.

I'm using the first batch of the MultiMVS with the latest firmware.

Are these known issues? I haven’t been able to find any information about this online.

Thanks!

The rhythm of the music is defined by the timer on the sound chip which is part of the neo geo board. That is controlled by the Z80 which is also part of the neo geo board. The multi cart only provides the program for the z80 to run. I suggest you try the cartridge on at least one different MVS board of any type and confirm if it has the same issue. There is a slim chance that the neo geo board has a fault on the sound circuit.

Even the eyecatcher music is playing overspeed.

Does this happen on all games?

Thanks for your reply!

I asked them to check the Z80 but they couldn't find anything. The 240p test suite Z80 doesn't give an error.

It doesn't happen on all games, i would say 10%-20% of all the ones i tested.

Unfortunately i don't have another MVS board to test the cart, but also hearing from Darksoft that he never heard of these issues believes it's still the Neo board.

Hello,

I sold my Multi MVS (September 2024 batch) and the new owner informed me that he has sound losses regardless of the game after a few minutes. The sound sometimes comes back but may also not come back at all.

He tested the Multi on several slots (2 different cabinets and consolidated MVS) and he still has the problem. The caps are changed on all his slots.

For information, the buyer makes the Multi running at 5.1v (which seems a bit high to me, no ?)

In your opinion, is this a hardware problem of the Multi or a firmware problem ? Thank you in advance for your ideas and feedback. I find myself in an uncomfortable situation with the person to whom I sold the Multi.

Cheers,

Hi All,

Had a question, my hot keys on my multi don’t work anymore. They use to work and now no matter what I do I can’t get any direction plus start to work.

Disregard. I forgot i had the rico set up with start button functioning as 2 buttons. My bad.

The sound issue has to do with power. Its been talked about and pretty much sorted out. Have him bring the 5v power down to about 4.7 to 4.75.

Did you also sold your SD cart with the Multi? I once used an old cheap SD card and had all various strange issues like graphical glitches and loss of sound.

I've had the MVS cart since September but now after a lot of testing I keep having audio issues. I have tested this on 3 separate one slots all different models. It seems to be an issue more with the higher meg games because I assume they have more power draw. Audio will randomly cut out and sometimes back in. I can adjust the voltage lower which makes the effect happen less frequently but if I drop it too much games reset as the voltage isnt high enough then. There is no sweet spot to stop all effects. Is this a known issue or just my cart?

I'm currently repairing someone's CMVS (Non-JNX) and the main focus is to get his Darksoft multi working on it.

When I first got the system I was getting a Unibios error saying "Privilege violation", cleared the backup RAM and now it shows the Unibios splash screen then it goes to crosshatch.

Cleaned the cart slot and cart and still the same issue. I have tested the cart on another MV1C and it works beautifully. So there must be some comms issue with this CMVS and the multi. It plays SNK carts just fine as well.

Any help is appreciated.

What power supply is being used? A lot of CMVS units use not great power bricks that may not be providing enough current - or the regulator isn’t keeping it at close enough to 5v

I would assume the multi cart will be more sensitive to bad power than an original cart since it is bringing down the internal voltage to 3.3v for the flash memory. I have noticed the cart works a lot better on a recapped board for example

I'm starting to think I may have a defective unit. TBH I have not used this a whole lot since I bought it in the last order.

I was having issues on my 4 slot with unibios so I assumed that was the issue.

I am now using
-a 32gig samsung evo card
-single slot mvs with stock bios (MV1B)
-playing metal slug2 loaded into slot 2 on multi-MVS

For the most part everything is great!, but in the middle of stage 3 and also in stage 4 the audio track starts to omit certain channels. I have included a video from stage 2 right after the audio changes. I have a genuine metal slug 2 cart that plays fine in the same setup. I will probably play through this scenario a couple different times tonight to see how consistent it is. Will also try another micro sd I have around.

how it sounds
how it should sound

EDIT: Let me try to reduce the voltage like Twon says in post 2129 adn see if that helps!
Voltage was 5.15 volts at the JAMMA connector

Just set it to 4.8-4.9 ish Volts, will play some games then update this post.
Stage 1 was great... stage 2 started with no audio at all though, no music or fx

Upped the voltage at the connecter to just under 5V maybe 4.95ish AND switched the slot to #1 on the multi mvs. I haven't experienced any issues so far playing up to level 5. I'm going to play some more then switch back over to slot 2 and see if the issue persists.

no issues on slot 2 yet either. Seems like my issues have been potentially resolved by properly adjusting the voltage to just under 5V.

Recently got my JAMMA cab back out of storage and have been able to start using the multi at long last. My multi was purchased last year so is one of the latest ones.

I've been having the sound cutting out issue like many others have. My motherboard is a MV-1FS. From what I can gather from other posts, it should NOT need to have the trace cut as that should already have been done and I should be keeping the voltage as low as possible but enough to boot the board. Is this correct?

I have a JAMMA passthrough adapter that has a voltmeter on it and that is reading at 4.97v which is of course the voltage at the JAMMA connector. Should I be checking the voltage at the cart slot and setting the voltage accordingly there instead?

If so, can someone point out the points to measure the voltage from please?

Thank you all.
