Interest Check: Pre-made upgraded 161-in-1 multicarts - All spots filled - 2025 UPDATE

Ok it works whatever.

I dont understand do you just want me to agree that it works? Im stating I havent found a solution and instead will just buy a single cart of Garou to hopefuly get save feature to work on this game.

I don't care what you agree to.

You are either being difficult or are just obtuse. I don't know which.

It is fact that the multi carts support VMC. It is your VMC that does not support the multi carts.

Your should read this thread.

It took me 5 seconds to find.

Especially, concentrate on who you should look up and contact to get a different VMC.

Thank you. Im glad. So buying a single cart is a bad idea?

For the sake of noob helpfulness and completeness:

- On the Neo Geo cartridge (AES & MVS) platform, save data is handled by a memory card - either a physical card plugged into the machine or a Virtual Memory Card (VMC) which fakes a physical card by wiring into the motherboard (ie NeoBiosMasta) or through software (ie Neo SD Pro).

- Save Data is NOT handled by the game cartridge with the original SNK released games (with the sole exception of V-Liner)! Some indie releases incorporate their own cart-based saves.

- Anyone having trouble with Neo Geo not remembering save data should try reformatting their (virtual) card in the Memory Card Manager. Hold down A + B + C + D while powering on, and choose Format Memory Card from the menu.

- For whatever reason, memory card data corruption seems to happen fairly frequently, and can cause games to glitch in unexpected ways. Formatting the memory card is a good first-step when troubleshooting any sudden Neo Geo game malfunction.

I am pretty sure the MVS soft dips are stored in backup RAM?

My memory is so bad lately but that's what I remember.

And the banana 161 in 1 actually stores the soft dips on the cart (which is pretty awesome).

I have a broken vortex cart.

Severe graphical corruption on the games that will load.

Nothing past Street Hoops will load; goes straight to cross-hatch.

I reached out to @rewrite but he doesn't seem to be active here or on klov anymore.

Is anyone interested in taking a look at it?

To get back to this unfortunate issue, is it possible that rewrite had socketed the daughterboards that the flash chips were soldered to? I believe that's what he did. A hail mary try could be simply opening the cartridge and reseating the relevant circuitboards. It's possible in the course of using the cart that movement/jostling has disrupted a connection responsible for the corruption.

If you see a different result afterwards it could still potentially be resolved by giving the relevant socket points and pins a wash with iso alcohol.

Long ago I stocked a 161-in-1 cart, some NOS chips and the relevant materials to make a multicart myself but I haven't gotten around to it for lack of time. Maybe someday I'll sit down and work through it, the soldering aspect I'm familiar with but the programming part I'm not.

@rewrite did socket the daughter boards.

I tried cleaning them before post but no luck.

I purchased 2 MVS vortex carts from rewrite. One of them had graphics corruption that was resolved through cleaning so that was the first thing I tried.

I sent it off to @leonk for a rebuild.

Thanks for the suggestion.

It's nonsensically expensive, and assuming it's more or less the same as the Vortex multis, they aren't forthcoming about certain games (Garou, SvC, KoF 02 comes to mind).

A scalper-level product, at least from my perspective at a glance.

Could someone please remind me of the games that have issues and what they are.

I think @leonk has it in one of his posts, but I know Garou Mark of the wolves is an early version that crashes if you use both of the twins "T.O.P." attack, KOF 2000 has menu issues from showing, and maybe a few more very minor issues but That's about it. Cleaning and using deoxit seems to fix most other graphics issues. Garou and KOF have extra security that the roms can't mimic, I guess. I own a copy of both Garou and KOF 2000 and there is something extra on the boards.
