I have a 36" JVC D-Series, model AV-36D304. It has a weird pattern on screen, regardless of inputs. Any ideas what might cause this? I haven't attempted any repairs or troubleshooting since it's a little unwieldy and I don't even know what to call the problem. It's most visible on solid darker colors but it's always present. It doesn't move.

I'm not sure if it's fair to call it a moire pattern. Obviously there is one from taking a picture. I've highlighted some of it in paint. These are all visible to the eye. Theyre horizontal swoops along the full height of the screen, mostly visible on the edges.

Nope, it's dark lines in a repeating somewhat sinusoidal pattern along the whole height, mostly visible on the sides.

I had reached out to sharp image a while ago and they said they'd take a look. Maybe I'll just do that already.

I have the same tv I think, 36 inch jvc d series, it has the same thing depending on what it’s displaying. It’s normal, I still think it’s the best consumer crt for its size.

I suggest doing the following for this TV bcuz once it’s fully calibrated, component display is absolutely stunning: read both of these and even though one is about the Sony wega, you can still apply it to the d series service menu.

That seems way more prominent than my set. I can't imagine they were like this brand new. I didn't notice this problem at first, only after using a mister with it (I swear the mister outputs unsafe analog signals).

But yeah aside whatever issue this is, this tv has been great. I picked it up for $20 a few years ago. I use it with an RGB2COMP (I don't see a need to RGB mod it). I like it a lot more than my 36" Vega. It's the perfect giant shadow mask consumer tv imo.

This is a fully recapped, reflowed, cleaned, professionally restored set and it still has the same effect as our sets on some backgrounds. It is just the nature of a giant shadow mask tv. I barely notice it and the overall exceptional quality of the colors and image outweighs this minor issue imo
