APOCALYPSE M92 Multi Installation and Support

Some constructive criticism for anyone making a multi in the future.

1- Don't put connectors in the middle of the board, where once assembled, you can't reach it and you need to disassemble the whole thing to get too
2- Perhaps these ribbon cables are a great way to solve some problems but they SUCK BIG TIME. There are an UGLY MESS, can become unseated (see point #1), and are just painful to work with. Perhaps that's why we get spares.
3- Try to put some sort of diagnostic LED (keeping point #1 in mind) to inform the user that everything is working properly, or not.

'scuse me while i go and disassemble the whole thing one more time.

1) There's a reason the connectors are where they are. Previous versions had issues with signal length when placed elsewhere.

2) Find me a better cable to use to transfer 60 connections in a package that can be easily folded etc. Go ahead. I'll wait. ;)

Design choices were actually made for a reason. The first cables were the standard 2mm IDC Grey cables but they are impossible to work with and cant be easily bent to go another direction not to mention i constantly lost individual signals so a change had to be made. Also depending on your romboard your multi will assemble completely different. More flexibility was required. Trust me. The cables we used are a much better option.

I do recommend placing this in a case tho. That will make it much tidier.

What problems are you having? Every game on every multi is tested working before I ship. Maybe we can help.

All games are working fine! Very nice multi and i knew (and wrote !) there was probably a good reason for these cables… thanks for the explanation but i still dont like them ! 🤷🏻‍♂️

No case yet.
There's a nice universal for stock boards but that is all.
Patiently waiting for my turn.

Been an insanely busy year and I definitely put too much on my plate (arcade wise), including oversharing in-process projects. I've been trying to get through the Cave stuff before formally offering up another enclosure as I am somewhat limited with laser time.

However, most of the CAD is done on the case. I really just need to cut the panels and print the parts for test fitment, and then I need to work out the art work.

How about this: self-imposed hard deadline of 2 weeks and you will see an enclosure. From there, I can finalize the small details and post an interest check.

edit: that was a lie

I got my multi earlier in the week - had time today, got everything set up - only took about 30m of actual assembly time - the flash writing took the longest.... Super elegant solution - one wire solder (for Dream Soccer 94) - everything is working as expected! I will do more testing tonight - but fired up 5 or 6 games, no sprite or sound issues - SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE! Thanks @Mitsurugi-w and Apocalypse!

Hi,

Just finished installing the multi, all of the games work fine, however, I have no sound.
Probably something I have missed? So far, I have checked :

Sound ROM against the roll-up pack.
Ribbion cables are the right way up.

Tested the donor game before installing the Multi (R-Type Leo CN ROM board) sound, and the game runs fine.

Set the jumpers according to the table in the install guide, however the description on the silkscreen doesn't match with the table for my ROM board.

Edit: I have tried the jumpers in there orignal postion and, as the table suggests, also disassembled the stack and retried with R-Type, which still works fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
