APOCALYPSE M92 Multi Installation and Support

Hmmm if I pick wrong, is this the kind of thing that could damage it?

I'm curious, what would you do in this situation?

I can send more photos too if that would be helpful.

I was planning on proceeding with the installing sooner rather than later and then posting an update. Some things came up though and I'm gonna need to delay just a bit. I didn't want to seem rude though and not post any updates at all. I'll update once I'm able to continue and try to include some data to help any other people that may end up with the same board as me.

Hi guys recently i mounted my M92 Multicarts on a Gun Force M92-A-B donor board. All the games work perfectly, but I can't hear any sound. The donor boards are tested and fully functional.

What could be the problem? I have a ROM set of Japanese games, and I burned sound ROM #8 package m92 rollup

The sound ROM is directly interfaced to the original sockets.
Could be a bad EPROM or connection issue on the daughterboard.

It seems with a MT2 donor, every applicable jumper needs moving. I went the route of installing header pins and jumpers:

I printed a set of these front spacers and used about 9 or 10 of these standoffs along with some generic M3 hardware to completely bolt the PCBs together.

It's quite the stack now. I'm playing In the Hunt the most so far.

Hi @Mitsurugi-w @Ape Cosplay

I'm just now back to troubleshooting my problematic multi installation that I posted about earlier in thread. So after lot of troubles before especially with no sound I tried my donor board in orginal form as Thunder Blaster and sounds works just fine. Today I finally put multi setup back together and did thorough testing with it. So here are overview of my findings:

1. All games start and play mostly ok but I get no sound at all with any games (just complete silence)
- I have double checked SOUND daughterboard
- I have also checked related FFC cable many times and cleaned it's connectors on boards
- I have wrote and tried 2 different sound EEPROM's but no change
- I have double checked jumpers
2. Thunder Blaster gets stuck at first garbled image screen before the actual game
3. Superior Soldiers is totally messed up (Video)
4. R-Type Leo and In the Hunt work but screen goes black after few demo cycles
5. No matter what I try I get occasional graphical glithces even after cleaning and reseating FFC cable etc. (Video)
- Many times it might take 20-30 playing several games after it happens. When the glitches do happen and I change the game they are usually there on others games too

Hi @Decoryah

I'm assuming you moved the jumpers (2 of them) next to the sound CPU from S position to N.
What programmer did you use to burn the 08 ROM?

2. Thunder Blaster gets stuck at first garbled image screen before the actual game
3. Superior Soldiers is totally messed up (Video)
This is actually the expected behaviour if sound CPU doesn't answer for those games (a few others get stuck during the initial boot process too). It's particularly troubling regarding Superior Soldiers as it produces graphic artifacts but that's part of the protection.

P.S.: It seems I need a google account to access your videos.

The Superior Soldiers video confirms what I said regarding the sound CPU and the protection.

The sound part of the multi is simple: 1 ROM (08 ) interfaced directly with the original sound sockets (SL0 and SH0) through the daughterboard. So either a bad ROM, broken pins on the daughterboard or poor contact on the flat cable.

The second video shows issues with sprites, I'd look at flashes 04 and 05.

[EDIT]
Forgot to ask, what's the reference of your romboard donor? Several games were released on different romboards, and I'm sure they are configurations I haven't seen yet.

Here are some pictures of my original main board and rom board. Main board is M92-A-B and rom board M92-C-B.

I will look into sound EPROM again. And maybe flash 04 and 05 one more time just in case.

I burned another EPROM for sound ROM 08 plus flashed 04 and 05 for sprites. Then I did lengthy testing session afterwards. Sprite issues are now fixed which is great 🙂 Other issues mentioned remain as before though, mainly no sound.

EDIT: Gone

Offering up a potentially free donor in Major Title 2.

I found this clearing out some old stuff and it is marked "bad graphics"; I believe it is a ROM issue that installing the multi would clear up.

Disclaimer: this is at work, I can't test it here, and don't want to drag it home. If it has more issues than I realize, I apologize -- do with it as you please.

In any case, if you could use this send me a PM with your address and I'll ship it out Tuesday. First come first serve.

Did anyone manage to programme their M27C322 EPROMs with a T56 ?
I keep getting the below error

The games seem to run fine but without proper sound (static hum) and perfect ssoldiers is teh only game that looks bad with messed up sprites.
I have reprogrammed the modules and they look fine,
double checked the jumpers,
Cleaned the ribbon cable and made sure blue is up,
reseated the sound board and cleaned the sockets

The game was a Gunforce (M92-B-A) that was tested after replacing the 4 socketed eproms with sockets., the only thing odd was the fact J6 was cut not sure if that was factory but if set to IMM there is no change in behaviour.

If some one could advise on programming the M27C322 using a T56 that would be awesome, as that has to be the likely culprit.
also if someone has a gunforce M92-B-A please could they check what their J6 is set to.

Cheeers

That thing has given me more headaches that my blood pressure doctor. Make sure that you have the latest Firmware updated and if possible, get a decent programmer.
