What's new

MiSTer FPGA

Curious if anything changes by adding that mister.ini file. Something deeper is causing this..

Also, I know the MiSTer updater doesn't update Jotego's stuff but whens the last time you ran the actual MiSTer updater? /media/fat/update.sh
Also ran that today, before all of the others.

I can try adding mister.ini and see if it does anything, but it doesn't look to mess with any of these?

EDIT: No change adding mister.ini

"Everything in _CPS1 is black screen or junk, with access to the core's menu."

Can you post a screenshot of the settings in your CPS1 core menu?

Here is a screenshot of mine.

I'm curious, what if you try the jtcps1_20200501.rbf rbf?

So I ran the main updater one more time for kicks, it updated just one file, and now everything seems to be working?

A few CPS1 games have booted up, Zaxxon is running now, so are the CPS0 games. Only thing I've tried out of maybe 15 that doesn't work right now is Bionic Commando.

HUGE improvement!

Maybe it was putting mister.ini in, and /then/ running update that did it? I'm not sure, but thank you so much for helping!!

Bionic Commando has a security chip which is broken at the moment. Jotego said he would look at it in some time. Glad you got everything working. There are people working on alternative packet manager that should make things much easier in the future. @rewrite's frustration is normal, hopefully the alternative system would be up and running by end of 2020, but it might be a fork and not official but might not matter.

Why don't you enter on JT's discord?
I connected through Patreon, but it doesn't seem to have taken yet. It's worked instantly with some other Patreon/Discord combos, but his isn't popping up for me yet.

Retrodriven breaks CPS-1 right now. The correct sequence would be: Format SD card with MiSTer tool, copy my base pack, then copy the CPS-1 add-on pack. Then copy the CPS1 .RBF from Jotego's patreon into /_Arcade/cores

It's unfortunate there isn't a central place to find info for all this (not your packs, but Mister in general) rather than looking at 4 different githubs, reddit, 6 forums, and hope you've got current info.

As we've found out, now you can do it a REALLY roundabout way and get both CPS1 AND Retrodriven working at once! Just keep running all the updaters, and add in mister.ini towards the end and cross your fingers.

Jotego just fixed a bug with the scandouber
It looks like that's with CPS0, not CPS1, yes?

I've been messing with Analog video a bit now that the games are working (late model Sony PC monitor that'll take 640x480 and up over VGA).

I guess it's somewhat normal for a bunch of cores to not support scandoubling? Zaxxon for instance doesn't show any options for it, and doesn't pick up on the mister.ini setting like SNES/MegaCD/etc seem to.

Exactly, CPS0 was just patched. CPS1 should be fixed in the next update (he's already done it actually). I have mine hooked up to a Sony VGA monitor too, hah! =) And yes, the scandoubler is core-dependent (from what I understand).

You don't need to look anywhere if you use my packs. They are always setup to just copy the base pack, and then add any add-ons you want on top of it. I can't give you Jotego's RBF since it's Patreon-only, so that is the hold-up in this case.

Retrodriven moves and renames files, so I recommend against it for the time being. The new MAME Updater script however will scan your MRAs and download any matching MAME ROMs that are needed.

I was a little confused because I just turned on the setting in the mister.ini and it handled all of the consoles without my touching individual core settings, but then some of the arcade stuff didn't.

This is the kind of thing I mean though, couldn't have known that without searching around a few different sites, knowing what I was trying to find ahead of time.

On the note of using your packs, the only thing I'll need to save between redoing the SD card is my mister.ini to keep my settings, yeah? And obviously things like the CPS1 rbf's.

You want to grab your configs and saves folders. You can either keep your old mister.ini, or just copy its settings to a fresh one, which is what I recommend, because new features get added to the .INI occasionally and you'll want to have control over them. If you keep your old .INI too long, you won't have any more recent options in it.

Can you remap the keys used in the 'gui', F12, shift/F12 and enter specifically. I was tried but was not successful.

Also, since you guys are at the bleeding edge - boot last core does not work with MRA (yet)?

Yeah mine is mapped as tab for JPAC. On main menu press F12 button, you will see the screen where you can see your network status, there be an option for that above it.

Not yet, iirc there is some resistance from the devs, not sure why, but yeah not happening at the moment.

Yeah i tried the remap thing there, will try again - just pressed F12, then TAB, but no joy - I may have made a mistake. You had both the j-pac and a keyboard connected, F12 and the keyboard, then shift-sequence on the J-PAC, or just everything on the keyboard?

Not yet, iirc there is some resistance from the devs, not sure
Given that the nick of the main dev sorgelig translates to sad(or sad sack), I'm not surprised :)

I did everything on keyboard, I remember it was a bit counterintuitive but that's the place where the change happens. Try TAB and F12 then.

Lol about sad sack you are well informed.

I managed to remap, not sure what I did - but seems it's easy to break it, i.e press tab(f12) quickly a few times and it stops working.

Shift-tab doesn't work, and after remap shift-f12 doesn't work either.

With all the conflicting update scripts, bugs, changes and whatnot going on, I'll put this back in the storage box for a month or two as this is just giving me gray hair right now.

waiting for my IO/SDRAM/USB to arrive from USA (a guy from Etsy).
got my de10 up and running (i am at home in linux) cant wait to play more :)

great info in here, yes its a pity the information of broken up and all over the place, but that just makes the end-goal much more enjoyable.
we are also dealing with an ever-developing system so one must be patient :) @invzim i like your idea, put it away for a little bit - things are rapidly changing right now.
