MiSTer FPGA

I don't understand what this is supposed to mean:

@MiSTerFPGABot "official" is boycotting this project. Only the community can save us!!!

l'm not into weird drama, it's not a great look for promoting your product. It makes me want to not have anything to do with it and just stay on the sidelines honestly, so I'd rethink that approach if you're trying to get community support.

Cheap? It’s the same price as @misteraddons Mistercade…
I'm not sure how much this product costs, but JAMMA HIMITSU SARU Ver. is open source; you'll need a Bluepill dev board (around $4) and some generic components (around 10$). The PCB is optional, you can use any dead JAMMA board around.
Yeah, I got excited for a minute there.

Then I saw the price...
Do you mean KAMI Version? Yes, that is a complete emmebed system that includes the JAMMA board and a USB HUB.

Yes, I'm blocked on "official" Discord, Twitter bots, and so on due to racist issues from THEM, and of course, some big sellers don't want a small dev from a third country making something competitive, perhaps? To be honest, it doesn't matter to me. I'll continue to do what I actually appreciate.
And, yes, thanks to the community, my USB2DB15 is still alive and well, and HIMITSU will be out soon. I'm not sure what you mean by rethinking when I speak the truth.

You are free to dislike me or my project, but I have noticed in this forum that there has been a certain depreciation of open source works for some time, which explains why many have left the scene.
I ask that before you say something, ask, I never refuse to answer, in whatever media I am in, twitter, Discord or here on A-P.

I know I’m nobody on here but please allow me to help with the understanding of this issue since the problem is not easily apparent to almost everyone here. I can promise you will never see me talking here unless it’s something I believe I truly understand or a discussion I think I can actually add value to.

I understand your position in regards to avoiding drama, please just know that @Raph_friend along with others doing good work in the MiSTer community cannot use the “official” retweet bot to raise awareness for their projects. So I think it should be reasonable to bring attention to this problem since the issue is he can’t reach the same audience and awareness in the MiSTer community as others enjoy and this is to no fault of his own.

It isn’t just Raph being blocked either. If you look for who gets a retweet from the mister bot and who doesn’t from those you follow in arcade you might be surprised. The “official” MiSTer bot is controlled by the tastes of a single MiSTer discord moderator who is allowed to dictate for an entire community (on twitter)

I mean ... it's just a Twitter account, right? Sounds like it's run by a volunteer who mostly retweets stuff they find interesting, and from scrolling through it I would say it's mostly not hardware focused. I dunno, I don't even follow it, and it only has 7,000 followers, that's not exactly the hugest of reaches that's capable of making or breaking you. I see some retweets from it sometimes, that's it.

Mister, as a project, has always seemed hostile towards arcade stuff in general. I stay out of the main community on purpose frankly.

Anyways, is what it is. I'm just noting, if you're trying to get people to support your project this isn't an approach that personally makes me want to.

Right. Their official account has fewer followers than @misteraddons even. So they're hardly affecting "an entire community".

If they're jerks ignore them, keep doing your own thing. People will buy a quality product regardless of support (or lack of) from a twitter account or a discord.

Plus, these guys don't even understand the open-source licensing they claim to be using, so don't put them on too tall a pedestal.

The way the bot works is #MiSTerFPGA = retweet. If the owner of the "OFFICIAL" misterfpga bot doesn't like you, you just get ghosted/blocked = no retweet/block list. They aren't really doing any work other than censoring people.

I get people can survive, and do survive without it. They do keep doing their thing. But it definitely has an impact on visibility unfortunately.

MiSTerCade is $250 without the DE-10 and SRAM.

Yours is $255 for the preorder.

I don’t see an option anywhere to order non-assembled kits, nor any files for getting our own PCB’s printed.

The advertisement seems a bit disingenuous, wouldn’t you agree?

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying; all of the information is on the website.
As I mentioned on Twitter, if you want to be a part of the beta tester team, send me a Discord DM.
All of the files for SARU Ver. will be made public as soon as the beta tester team gives us the go-ahead.

Please keep in mind that I am not a MiSTer seller; almost all of my resources are as of now invested in current and future open source projects, such as USB2DB15 and HIMITSU.

My projects are listed in my signature.

Thank you very much.

P.S. : HIMITSU KAMI Ver. is 255$ with free worldwide shipping.

In my opinion, your announcement is disingenuous specifically because:
  • The announcement says "cheap" but the only link takes you to a preorder form for a $255 product, which is more expensive than both the $250USD MiSTercade and $185USD Irken Labs MiSTer Jamma Expander. No other options are listed.
  • The announcement says "open source" but no materials for SARU are publicly available at this time (PCB designs, list of components, etc).
  • It's not very clear in general that the KAMI version is fully-featured and closed-source, while the SARU version is lightly-featured and open-source.
I think it would clear up some confusion for potential customers and help your product if you:
  • Gave the Open Source solution and Closed Source solutions completely different names. KAMI vs SARU is confusing to me, and likely other potential customers.
  • Post a feature comparison table listing the feature and functionality differences between the light-featured and full-featured products.
  • Post the Open Source materials as soon as possible with a "work in progress" disclaimer. That way, more folks will be able to look at it and provide you with helpful feedback through the usual open-source discussion channels (ie GitHub) rather than having to join a Discord server. A lot of the smart folks in the arcade and MiSTer communities avoid Discord.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I promise I will look into it, ok?

If you want to join beta tester team for JAMMA HIMITSU SARU Ver. just click on the link on my twitter.
RED is for pre-order the KAMI Ver and BLUE to join the SARU Ver beta tester.

Very well put. That was my issue as well.

Well there isn’t any info on the open source stuff but only this line:
C88DE8FB-0ACC-47EC-8AEB-0E3B24230D9A.jpeg

So right now it seems like only a sales page, since the only option right now is to pre-order.
i think that’s where the confusion comes from.

I'm sorry dear, is there anything wrong with my English in this text? What does this mean for you? "Link to github SOON" is wrong? Could you please elaborate?
My recent tweet announcing JAMMA HIMITSU SARU Ver. for MiSTer FPGA states that beta testing is now open.

Thank you.

I think the only real confusion here is @Raph_friend is talking about a new JAMMA solution other than MiSTercade.

I don’t follow. @invzim ‘s JAMMA Expander product is well-regarded here and there’s several positive JAMMIX threads as well.

It’s not my intention to slam on Raph’s product-I haven’t seen it or tried it. But there is a lot of confusion here when he has two different products at two different price points with two different licensing models with similar names targeting the same audience.

If it’s confusing to me then I’m sure it’s confusing to others. The “coming soon” link to the open source product is on the preorder page for the closed-source product. Split them up and make a dedicated web page for each.

Currently the claim is that it’s “cheap” and “open source” with no obviously visible evidence behind either claim.

You want proof that the JAMMA HIMITSU SARU Ver. is open source and cheap? Is that it? Don't worry, the beta tester team has already received the initial files and will provide you with what you require.

When SARU Ver. is released to the public, you can fork and rename it as you see fit, as long as you follow the licenses.
It would be an honor to have you and other legends test it at some point.

Thank you very much.

Dear?
Ok I’m done. Got little time for this condescending shit. Product seems shady.
“Cheap” seems to mean, become a beta tester.
There are other options out there, no need to buy from someone obviously playing games.
Wait, i'm missing something?
Why are you so angry???

You misunderstand. You don’t need to prove anything to me. All I’m saying is that your current website messaging is confusing, hence my suggestions earlier in the thread.
