Had receives a versus city last Saturday and player 1 monitor was shrinking horizontally. Took the chassis out last night and found tons of bad pads and shitty patch work. Was able to redo all of it and get it back to working order.

The shrinking issue you mentioned - was the screen expanding and contracting ar random?

I fixed a MS9 like that just a few weeks ago. It was a cap issue. Whoever had recapped it had only replaced some of the capacitors.

Could be a solder joint or bad pot too.

Reflowing anything suspect including all the areas you pointed out. This fixed both monitors with this issue. The monitors had never been serviced and I was surprised to see that there were a few broken joints and some through holes with visible voids from too little solder. I replaced the largest cap near the AC input and the neckboard one. These lived an easy life.

Most common issue are due to bad solder joints under the H driver Transformer, the little grey one just in front HOT. Ususlly also the H yoke connector get overheat signs and both caps on 200v line 10uf 250v ( one on the neck board and one on the main) should be replaced all the way.

I am just happy to learn and help, I had to figure all this out on my own. So if it helps make it easier for the next person I happily share the knowledge.
This is why I love that you post these. Great documentation for posterity. It's posts like these that you find 10-15 years later and go "damn, thank god for this dude. Even though all his photos are long gone" haha
