[SOLUTION FOLLOWS]

  • Shortly after posting I was shown a troubleshooting video which identified a rainbow cable as a crucial part (which was missing from my unit). I then sought out and purchased a replacement since I didn't have the proper connectors on hand to wire one up. Once it arrived, I connected the rainbow cable to port P12 and P4 (on the main and video boards, respectively). This provided the necessary solution, and the PCB booted without issue.

Hello folks!

Another day, another problem on the bench- and I could use some help (as I'm still learning!)

Today, we have a Donkey Kong Jr. PCB from June of 1983. The seller claimed it came from a working cabinet and I don't have a reason to disbelieve them. The board itself looks in great shape (as the pictures indicate). To run it, I've got a Nintendo to JAMMA adapter from PCB Junkie connected to a HAS v5 from our very own @RGB, going out to an OSSC Pro which is running to an El Gato HD 60X.

The board power measures 5 V and 12.98 V at the JAMMA edge. I measured 4.98 V coming off leg 11 of the Z80A CPU as a random check down the line.

I receive a black screen when the unit is powered on, but it does produce the initial jump noise that you would expect. However, after that point, nothing appears to be happening. There appears to be no video output. My OSSC Pro unit appears to confirm the lack of video out, and is not indicating any signal at all. Attempting to coin up or otherwise input controls post power-up yield no results (no audio indicators, suggesting the game is not running blindly).

I have attempted to tweak the H and V pos pots on the board to no avail. I altered the RGB outs on the Nintendo adapter to no avail. I've altered the RGB settings in the HAS v5 unit to no avail. I've also attempted all possible combinations of video options in the HAS v5 to no avail (that is: TTL Csync Level, Raw Csync, and Video LPF).

I'm afraid I don't really know where to start looking next, so any troubleshooting signposting (or handholding, I'll take whatever :D) would be appreciated! Cheers folks!
