Sega Model2/3 - JAMMA Adapter Thread

*SCREAMS INTERNALLY*

So, I'm making an adapter to make sure the mono audio works, because just soldering resistors onto the board, as-is, or trying to solder resistors to wires, isn't working.

EDIT: *SCREAMS EXTERNALLY*
I didn't double check my schematic vs my footprint, accidentally wired this this wrong, OOPS! It's already gone into production so I can't cancel it, but when this batch of bad board arrives I will confirm they will fit and modify if they don't.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but where did you get the Screw down terrminal JAMMA board? I'm trying to find one as that looks to be very useful.

I'm very sad to say RetroElectronik doesn't exist anymore, but I have considered repoing the board because it is extremely useful.

oh man. That explains just fleeting photos of this existing and not being able to find it for sale. Appreciate the info. If you do repro it, I'll definitely pick one up. I have a really good use case for it.

I've forgotten to update, but all parts are in for all 5 boards (except the new summing adapter boards for audio). I plan on soldering everything down this weekend, then the great cable making begins. There's a lot of cable to make too, ugh.

I'm shooting for these to be done by the beginning of May.

Life would be too easy if things always went as plan, and the board soldering didn't happen, but it still shouldn't take more than a few hours to do so I'm not terribly worried.

In the mean time, the summing board is a success. I spent way more than I anticipated when making it, as the double order of PCBs and some special headers I didn't need connect the boards together. I'm also glue-gunning the board to keep it stable when being used. I had the two boards connected and it was fairly wobbly, and I don't want the boards connected just directly soldered either, that just seems like a bad idea.

Also note all boards will be fully cleaned before being packaged and shipped. This photo looks worse than it really is, but I have a lot of cats and flux is sticky, lol.

May has come and gone and my life has been going through a few things. Currently my work area had to have all projects halted because something more urgent has come up and that space is needed, so. I'm not particularly well known for being speedy at these things mainly because I'm a perfectionist, and if I can't make it perfect, I get frustrated and move to something else for a bit. So these are still getting done but no ETA at the moment. This year for sure though.

It'll be done when it's done. I appreciate that you're keeping it alive at all in the first place.

It's been an extended length of time and long overdue for an update. These things will get finished in the coming months. I need them sold so I can fund the next iteration I have laid out, which will be a vast improvement in my opinion and will be compatible with Model3 as well.

I was interested in picking up a sonic the fighters but then it seemed like a really tough set up to get it working in a regular jamma cab. This seems interesting! Happy to say I do have the artwork for the game.

I have updated the Yahoo Japan Model2 and Model3 to JAMMA harnesses in the first post, as they were outdated. If you need one and don't need an amp built into the adapter, I highly recommend those from a seller I have personally purchased from.

Do not pay the outrageous prices on ebay which use screencaps of @twistedsymphony's pinout guides. Importing from Japan would be way cheaper for a better product.

Can they make one that adapts to a sun power supply?

The guy on YAJ can make anything, just need to message them with the specifics. Same with the French guy on ebay.

I had the ebay guy make me some harnesses previously (might've mentioned it in this thread, even). Wire gauge was way too small IMO (single wire 22GA I think) for Model 3 so I ended up returning them. He said he wasn't able to use thicker gauge wire when I asked.

I mean, give me a connector type and I can pretty much make anything. I'd do it for a lot less too.
I bought the VF2 harness from YAJ that you recommended last night. I have a spare Corsair ATX PSU but when I tried to use it with an adapter the French eBay seller made me for VF3 i couldn't get it working. Could have been user error too on my part.

I'll test with the ATX PSU first on my VF2 and if i can't get that going see if i can get one made for my Sun PSU.

AWG 22 is the biggest wire gauge size you can use with JST NH.

https://www.jst-mfg.com/product/index.php?series=182

The power wires terminated into either a Molex connector (I forget which) or a JST VL (?) which take far larger wire gauge. The Sega and Sanwa harnesses I had both used 16 or 18 gauge wire for the power on my harnesses, and the ones he sent me were using a single 22 gauge wire. That's why I sent them back.

That aside, both of them are very responsive and provide good service. I imagine the French guy probably charges more because cost of doing business in EU (and France especially) is much higher than Japan.

Anyway, I don't want to derail further, just sharing my experience.
