Smurph - we're working it out

Tribalism.
How do you figure??
The only "tribes" I've seen lately are the mindless groups that congregate on Facebook who put more emphasis on framing PCB's and staging photoshoots with arcade cabinets and ridiculous looking neon signs. When this shit started getting bought more for aesthetic quality and how much "value" it holds, the hobby started going down the toilet. That's not to say anything about the rampant greed that bleeds its way into everything about this hobby.

Maybe I'm just an old man yelling at clouds...
Yes, that is classic "old man yelling". The mentality that there are "rules" in this hobby, and it's only ok to participate in this hobby as long as other people do it your way, is asinine. News flash, people have been taking pictures of their collections of shit (which by the way, is indeed worthless shit in the eyes of people outside the hobby) since... I don't know, probably since consumer cameras were a thing.

A key point you keep glossing over, after the fact, is that you shipped it late after rewrite had paid you for the "non-working" board. Not only did you ship it late, but you kept messing/testing with the board in hopes of getting it to work, it seems. Then once you got it working, you reneged on the original deal.

Had you shipped when you were supposed to, you would not have known it was working and that it was your original negligence that led you to believe it had not been working in the first place.
But who in their right mind would actively want to sell something for LESS MONEY than what they thought they could get? That is why this is not malicious or "bad" behavior. Just stupid behavior. It doesn't mean Rewrite should get an incorrectly priced Deathsmiles.

very clearly my own fault and a result of my own incompetence.
Accurate. I don't know why people want to make it more than this after you've acknowledged fault. You were stressed and jonesing for money fast, then thought about it a little more and wanted to test it again. I can relate to making bad decisions in stressful situations. Outrage culture doesn't want to allow you to make human mistakes, unfortunately.

Again, I'm willing to take this hit, as this whole thing is very clearly my own fault and a result of my own incompetence.
I humbly request that other members do not fan additional flames until we've worked this out.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.
So much for that cooperation.

And @benime, you're right, you didn't see the PMs and you're making random accusations based on nothing and in turn being nasty for no reason except to fan the flames. Not sure what you have against me that's so bad you need to make up stories, but I'd appreciate it if you'd just, yknow, not.

Not gonna weigh in on the deal, the two people who count are working it out like adults.

But I think some of the extra judgmental stuff could be turned down.

I've got a decent collection of cabs. And you know, they all get played every week, that's why I have them. And I don't have stuffed animals on them. But if I wanted to cover them in toys and take pics of them, so what?

Hobbies can have all kinds of people in them. This one has players, and collectors, and people who like to tinker and build things. People who enjoy repairing or restoring. People who feel proud to own obscure or rare stuff, or who capture a piece of their childhood, or enjoy importing things that feel exotic.

If you're buying up stuff to hoard it away in a warehouse or something I guess that's lame, I'd rather things were out to be enjoyed. But how you get your pleasure out of the hobby doesn't really feel like my business. And I'm not sure it's yours either.

If you want to take pics with neon signs and 'aesthetic' and share with the world? Sounds like a cool photo to me. Not sure why that should make anyone mad.

The key difference here is that you play them regularly. Go ahead and toss some stuffed animals on them or whatever.

More specifically, there are folks collecting in the hobby now that do not play them at all. Decorate rooms and all around them like some home arcade for the sole purpose of Internet bragging or as a "talking piece". It is inflated even more as many of them do not know anything about them, yet act like an expert because they own them.

It reminds me of a Barn Hunter episode, whole bunch of vintage and cars far rarer than these cabinets just sitting in someone's yard rusting away. When they could be purchased and restored by hobbyists or professionally restored for that person that just wants to drive it on weekends during the summer. Or literally going into an actual museum for historical preservation.

Or this retrogaming bs collector trend that has everything sealed new in box and never opened sitting on a shelf. With no intention of being opened or even played at all.

Feels the same as your hoarding reference. They were designed to bring entertainment and fun, not sit there off as a static display.

Thanks for the input.

It would probably be in everyone’s best interest if this thread got locked. It’s going to keep getting worse unless it’s locked.
Maybe @Darksoft or @brizzo or @Mitsurugi-w could give us a hand.

Both parties have come to an agreement, and asked everyone to stop fanning the flames, but people can't seem to respect that.

I wanted to post that things ended on a good note for this.

After fighting with PayPal for the better part of a month to get the
refund to pay for the game again I was sold it for the originally agreed
upon price. And offered to give @Smurph first refusal at exactly what I paid for it should I ever sell it.

And the damned thing showed up and is missing the top few pixels of the
image on every one of my cabs, as originally advertised... So the whole
debacle was for nothing, ha.

Looooooool yeah.

When I tested it on my GBS/LCD setup, it worked perfectly. My guess is that there's just something SLIIIIIGHTLY wrong with the sync that the VGA conversion board was totally fine with, but CRTs are more picky about. I'd guess it's a simple fix in that case

@rewrite, that happens alot with the SH3 PCBs. You can fix that in the test menu. I had a little freakout when I saw it on mine too.

You basically just need to shift the image in the test menu. Nothing to worry about.

Necroposting a bit; however to cover my bases, I should publicly mention that I accepted the offer of first refusal on this should he ever sell. Back to the graveyard now with this thread XD
