Heyo,

So I have held onto a very nice condition Sega Strike Fighter single screen sit down cab, and my son and I came with the idea of converting it to an Afterburner Climax. The plan is to upgrade the monitor to HD led and replacing the thin speakers with something with a little more body, but upgrading the system to a Lindbergh just sounds daunting. Maybe not necessary, but a Lindbergh was the goal.

I know it can be done as some of the images of the AB Climax cabs when they came out use a very similar, if not the same, cockpit, but along with the main computer, what other issues do we have to look forward to??

Any and all comments and predictions welcome.

Also, check out attached photos for aesthetic reference.

Thanks for reading

You should compare the manuals to see if the parts are remotely compatible.

- Strike Fighter is Naomi and Climax is also JVS so that solves alot of rewiring
- Both games will likely use the same JVS IO or at least the same IO wiring.
- Both games use a 31khz monitor no issue there
- Both games will use line level sound amp no worries there
- Compare the wiring schema for controls to be sure they match.
- The big concern is the Joystick and throttle stick These need to match mechanically. The joy stick is probably the same on both but I have zero way to know thats your job but you can look up parts on ebay happ etc if you need to try to sneak better photos of the controls.

Installing a lindbergh shouldnt be a big deal. As long as it fits under the seat and I think it should. You just need to upgrade the PSU for the lindberg to use. Which is also actually pretty easy because AFAIK the lindbergs power input filter board is 1:1 ATX. So you just plug an ATX power supply in it.
Please confirm this info first though but I remember I tested Linds before that way im pretty sure.

Thats really the only part that I think needs the most attention is the actual controls.

Btw if you want a Climax motion cab I can import one for you haha

That looks like a very nice conversion. Good luck!

That is so cool and I would also like to go for it since I bought last week the Sega Strike Fighter cab on original hardware. My plan is also to have a conversion to Climax with an original hardware or maybe a PC emulation where I then can seleczt which game to be loaded :-) Are there any references who did this already ?

So you want to convert a Striek Fighter cab to After Burner Climax? First you need to have an LCD monitor and a SEGA JVS I/O type 3 (837-14572) like in the picture or whatever the manual says.

Manual is available in many sites like i.e. https://segaretro.org/images/4/40/AfterBurnerClimax_Lindbergh_Manual_Deluxe.pdf

you need to replace the monitor, adapt cabling for power and the SEGA I/O as there is no filter board anymore and of course you need the Sega Lindbergh with the game installed.
