A guy over at UKVAC does the connector kits for AfterBurner, OutRun, etc.Well crap: the “afterburner parts and wiring” box i wanted turned out to not be wiring for afterburner and the parts (throttle and control) were so bad i actually left empty handed, and pockets full!
Guess i’ll have to make some sort of harness to see if it’s alive or not
I've used three kits to build OutRun, Afterbuner, and PowerDrift JAMMA harness.

Seems to be relatively OK.
I've seen AfterBurner run on a modified XBox 360 controller, which is a quick and dirty way of testing the controls.
How about the sound?

Hey i am not there yet, the sound is secondary !
I have burned the diagnostic roms on 27c1001, placed them in ic58 and ic63, removed ic20 and ic29, booted it… and nothing. Am i doing something wrong? Do i need to « press the test switch » for the test to run or should they run directy?

That's odd you just remove ic20 and ic29 like you already did, plug the test roms in and power up and it should loop endlessly.
I think maybe M27C1001 are JEDEC and you need non JEDEC M27C1000 for the test ROMs?

You are right. the in place ic-58 and -63 are indeed M27C1000 aka 27c301 /quote TwistedSymphony:

which of course means I don't have them and I know better then to erase the in place roms... so ordered them from Steph @ hobbyroms.

Well turns out it was my wiring that was bad! (And/or cleaning the roms leg) looks like its 100% and bonus: the screen i am testing with was missing blue and after reflowing a couple of sus points, looks like he’s back in action as well

sorry to keep highjacking your thread sega_man! ... but I've wired controls and can now run the diagnostics:
... so that's good but I do have issues with sound ... meaning I can't get anything out.
I though I only needed to amplify the 4 pins out to right and left speaker but nothing (well I do hear something looking like music if I plug a speaker directly so "something" is coming out)
Looking at the schematics, there is a A23 and B8 from the 20 pin connector going to the sound board on top of these 4 pins. Is that data? power? (guessI I'll measure eh) nani?

Ah you have the filter board. I have a cable I made that go's from the pcb to phono plugs and into a amp.
Don't these have the same custom sound SMD chip found on OutRun?

I do not have the filter board.
Phono to amp… so nothing special ok ill run more tests
edit: more tests results: the sound is like a regular motor running ... no real music. will investigate some more

I've been looking for the Airdrive Digital Sound Board for a long time.
I would be very happy if you could take some photos of this board for me, it is attached to the bottom of the game board and is labeled 837-7000
At the moment I'm rebuilding the Airdrive Cabinet and I'm happy for any information I get from this great machine
