Today I worked on lots o’ cabs! (The CRT porn thread)

Yeay! New arcade project!

After a fantastic trip to Nem’s arcade in Helsinki, I was seriously craving a new project so I jumped on this opportunity. Without a doubt the best looking Vewlix in my opinion. The Diamond Blue

Cab got delivered ridiculously fast and looked quite decent upon delivery. From past experiences, I wasn’t looking forward to cleaning it up…. Lots of spots on the Vewlix to hide lots of nasty shit…. Dishwasher gloves FTW!

Was delivered with a Taito Fast IO and original monitor.

IMG_5258.jpeg

Detaching the side panels revealed lot’s of “snacks” This cab has seen some shit!
Let the cleaning commence!
IMG_5266.jpeg

Yum…

IMG_5267.jpeg

Monitor also needed some care… Crazy amounts of “pubes”.

IMG_5268.jpeg

IMG_5269.jpeg

No point in keeping this dirty fucker…Probably needs a exorcism. Begone foul demon!

IMG_5271.jpeg

IMG_5270.jpeg

After cleaning for a couple of hours, cab was a lot more sanitary. Looking snazzy!

IMG_5274.jpeg

IMG_5275.jpeg

Brand new Noctua fans installed. Nice and clean!

IMG_5276.jpeg

IMG_5277.jpeg

Begone you loud bastard!

IMG_5278.jpeg

Monitor was surprisingly clean inside. Just needed to remove 20 pounds of old pubic hair and clean the glass.
After putting it all back together, it was ready (and clean enough) to come home to the apartment.

To be continued…

All clean and in its new place back home. A proper new panel from @alberto1225 will make it look smashing!
IMG_5306.jpeg

Since I don’t have anything that supports Fast I/O, I bought a new Exa arcadia I/O

IMG_5318.jpeg

Worked great with my Exa Arcadia, but didn’t work with Tatio X2 multi or my original Desthsmiles 2…. Really annoying….

IMG_5320.jpeg

Luckily it was just a firmware issue, and after getting some tech support from a good friend and updating to version 1.3.1, everything is working great!

Daughter approves 🤘🏻

IMG_5355.jpeg

Got my brand new, drop in replacement monitor from Arcooda today. Big fucking box!

IMG_5364.jpeg

Really good packaging!

IMG_5365.jpeg

And looks great!

IMG_5366.jpeg

Came with some extra snacks
IMG_5367.jpeg

And most importantly.. It works!

IMG_5368.jpeg

Installing was easy as fuck. Remove old monitor. Replace with new. Had to do some minor cable management to fit the new remote board where the old one was, but pretty straightforward.

IMG_5372.jpeg

All installed and ready to rock! Screen looks damn good! Fast and responsive with great colors! Celebrating with Akai Katana EXA label seemed like a good idea…

IMG_5373.jpeg

IMG_5374.jpeg

But looks like my EXA needs service again…. Fuck…. Error fucking 36 fuck a duck..

Loving this thread brother amazing work with such precision. I am going to take you up on that FaceTime service you mentioned. I have a MS-2932 chassis matted with a MS9 Hitachi tube that I put together. Just can't get it looking perfect.

This one has been on hold for way too long….
But I’m back on the arcade-crack! Finally some spare free time!

A couple of years ago I read and old article about TV manufacturer Grundig making some great shit back in the late nineties. Their top models even had the best tubes straight from Toshiba.
And what do you know… This bad boy popped up on Norwegian “craigs list” soon after.
The lovely Grundig ST72-760/8

Or what I call it… The MEGATRON 🤘🏻
IMG_6020.jpeg

It’s been living down in my basement for way too long, but now I had finally the time to make something awesome with it.
Opened this bad boy up and found a gorgeous Toshiba A68KZN696X01 tube inside
Party-time!

IMG_6018.jpeg

Hooked it up to my rejuvinator and got some truly excellent readings. This tube was basically brand new!
On the gween!! (Silly Turf masters reference … cough)

No need to do anything with it. Great readings, great emissions, excellent life expectancy and perfect tracking. Niice!

IMG_6019.jpeg

I got a Nanao MS-2931 chassis + yoke a good while ago. Never got around to the test it, but gave it a good recap and general TLC.
Reading all the horror stories that this chassis can really fuck my beautiful tube up, I nervously hooked everything up and powered on…. With my fire extinguisher nearby just in case…..

IMG_6024.jpeg

Rock solid image and nothing blew up… Great success!
Needs a full yoke setup with purity, dynamic convergence etc etc, but that just fun!

IMG_6025.jpeg

Since I have done a couple of yoke swaps, everything just went super smooth this time. Getting good purity and convergence takes time, but get easier the more you do it. Didn’t take to long before I got some pretty decent results.

IMG_6033.jpeg
IMG_6034.jpeg

I decided to just go with the flow and removed the tube from the original case and put it in a spare MS8 metal cage.
Pretty decent convergence if I may say so myself

IMG_6051.jpeg

Pretty nice staring point. 240-P girl looking smashing!

IMG_6054.jpeg

IMG_6056.jpeg

Last on the to do list was this little fucker

IMG_6079.jpeg

Nanao used different heater resistors based on what kind of tube the chassis was paired with. Thanks to the almighty CRT master @nem, I found info that my tube would need a 2,2 ohm flame proof resistor. The one installed was a 4 ohm and made the picture a little to dark and colors a bit dull.
Found a spare resistor on a old MS8 chassis and swapped it in. And damn… correct heater voltage makes a world of difference…..

Picture is stunning…. Bright and vibrant and super crisp! Probably the best tube I own…
