UD-USB Decoders

I got another notification like around 1 PM yesterday, like four hours later I saw it was sold out. I'm not sure if they were really in stock and they pushed out the notifications by mistake?

For DB15 version, I just assembled over 100, so I'll be getting more to Paradise Arcade in the next couple weeks.

For the screw terminal version, I need to coordinate with Paradise on assembly.
@undamned any update regarding EU stock?
Video Game Perfection may still have some in stock. I can hit them up to see if they need more.

@undamned - hoping you can help with a misbehaving db15 model.

I have 2 DB15 UD-USB's. One is having issues with the 2K input. Whenever connected, it holds that connection at 1.0V and the input will not register.

I flashed the firmware - 1.1. 1.3 and 1.4d - no change on either.

I opened the enclosure and found that the 2K input is a direct connection to pic24fj64 pin 4. No components in-line or tangent routes.

All other inputs work fine. Any suggestions on how to fix this and get all inputs working properly?

On a separate note, found an oddity under the hood. See below. A resistor sandwiched between R4 at the ground end, and the non-sandwiched end of that oddball resistor not connected to anything. It doesn't seem to be related to teh issue above, as these components have no connection to 2K or pic pin 4, but a peculiarity for sure. I removed that oddball sandwiched resistor.

I apologize for the late reply. I'll shoot you a DM and we can sort it out.

I haven't released the next FW rev, yet, but big thanks to @9999 Damage and @FrJosh (on Twitter) for lending me a bunch of controllers to add!

Coming in the next release:

  • Sega Astro City Mini arcade stick
  • Sega Astro City Mini pad
  • Taito Egret II pad
  • Retro-Bit Mega Drive pad
  • Retro-Bit SS pad (wired & wireless versions)
  • Victrix Pro BFG pad (PS4 mode, wired & wireless)

@undamned - thank you for sending the replacment UD-USB!

To you or anyone that knows - where can I find the screws that will secure the UD-USB to the DB-15 terminal? I should've removed mine before sending in the faulty unit...my bad. I believe I pulled the ones shown here out of a VGA or DB-15 housing kit, but it's been quite a long time and I don't remember for sure, but I'm pretty sure I was guessing that they would be a right fit and I got lucky that they were. If anyone knows where to get screws that will for sure work, I'd appreciate the pointer.

For anyone else needing screws to secure their ud-usb to the db15 terminal, i got these and they work well.

Thanks for the tip. Mine just arrived.

Installed on one UD-USB and tried screwing it into a HAS 5.0, but I found too difficult and annoying to do regularly. I would only use these if I planned to leave UD-USB installed indefinitely, not for a setup to swap frequently. Because the UD-USB flares out on the USB side, It's hard to turn the screws from the side (no room for a screwdriver) and you have to screw/unscrew them while the DB15 plug is partially inserted.

Would these be more comfortable for your fingers? Lots of similar options on AliExpress....
TBH, I wasn't really having an issue with UD-USB being too loose on HAS, and I'm at risk of amassing a collection of thumbscrews, so I'm gonna sit this out.

But if someone really wants thumbscrews, I think you want something shorter than the CablesOnline ones, and no wider (lest they create friction with the UD-USB housing).

Yeah, the ones I had previously did not extend out at all just a "screw into the hole". Screwing them in wasn't much less hassle, because your screwdriver has to be at an angle. If someone ever finds a better solution, hoping they post it. I'm good with mine. I don't swap them in and out often.

Hello! I have been enjoying both the self-contained and terminal block UD-USB decoders for a couple years now, thanks! I recently noticed that Switch Pro Controller support was added, so I was hopeful my Hori SF2-styled wired joystick for Switch/PC would finally work. Sadly, it does not even light up nor activate the UD-USB (no green light). Do you think it needs extra power? Is it possible to inject power somehow and connect it to the UD-USB, if this is what it needs? I love the sensitive buttons on this thing and would love to play the real arcade games with it.

[EDIT] More info on this joystick which is no longer featured on the Hori USA website, although I found their press release for it: 2019 E3 Press Release Announcement: HORI to release a series of Street Fighter™ branded Fight Sticks for Nintendo Switch

Also, the other weird thing is I would expect the PC mode on this joystick to work since it uses X-Input, but alas, no dice.
