I was able to do a pretty good job of restoring them.

KC's not someone I want to do business with unless it's necessary.

The sensitivity rating is more important than the impedance. You should stick with the original speakers unless they sound really bad or have absolutely no low end.

Not sure if you can tell from a YouTube video but I recorded two videos of music playing through the restored Blast City speakers. It sounds like I'm getting a lot of hissing from the tweeters. I did remove and clean them but found no restoration information on them.

What do you think? Feel free to provide your honest opinion. Also, please ignore the mess.


 
Can’t tell from a YouTube video how good it sounds. Probably fine for arcade games. Especially older ones that don’t sound great with any speaker. I’m assuming “restore” means you repaired the disintegrated cone on the woofer. The hard part with that, I learned, is attaching the cone to the frame with enough flexibility allowing the right amount of movement. Too much and it might be noisy or get damaged. Too little and you lose all low end. Since you want good sound, maybe buy a pair of the speakers that others have used and try it. They shouldn’t cost too much and you can sell them on this site if you don’t want them. If the tweeter is too harsh, cover it with something or attach a resistor to it like I did.

Correct, I repaired the disintegrated cone with this method.

Copy on the tweeter and look at other speaker options.

Ah, I see. Having that mold looks like it makes things easier. Still a tricky job that I wouldn't want to try again. After all that work of making a mold and rebuilding the cones, you definitely need to keep the stock speakers.

I tested them with my CPS2 game and they sound pretty good. I'm going to stick with them for now. Thank you for all your help!
