Hot dog! I just landed a World Warrior Rainbow Edition. I knew it existed. It's currently on a revision E board and isnt 1/2 bad. My question is there a list of rainbows out there that is very close to being complete if not complete? When I look online the best thing I can find some of the old emulation sites but I'm not finding anything about rainbow for World Warrior just Champion Edition

Another photo of the chip. Are there any other World Warrior Rainbows left out there?

If you dumped the rom I’d bet it matches the “quicken” sf2 version. Try some searches with that term, I think you’ll find more info about it than using “rainbow” which I think is used for the CE variant.

Yes, dump that eproms please. Then you can pass them through mame using -romident parameter and it will tell you if it's been ever dumped or not.

I'm still a very relative newbie baby when it comes to ROM dumping, but I'll ask for help from my friend. I do know of another rainbow in my area which does not appear to be out there yet. Just from the visual inspections. What bothers me is the seemingly dismissive attitude of the community to want to preserve these as well. Yes they are genetic mutations of Street Fighter but if it weren't for them I don't think the series would have continued or evolved and if it did it most certainly would not have evolved as it has.

I can't do gameplay I am completely packed up as I'm getting ready to move of course this kind of stuff only pops up when you're not prepared I'll have to do the old cell phone in one hand and controller in the other. I can tell you that this game looks very very similar but plays a little different then the other Quicken version I find online

Dumping the EPROMs *is* preserving this variant. Nobody here is being dismissive. Dump the roms and then you can check it it’s already dumped, or if it should be submitted to MAME.

I can say that with some experience, the community here helped me save one such variant: Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition (?)

I didn't even know there was modified versions of World Warrior like this, but I guess it makes sense. Pretty cool.

I think I should clarify, my dismissive phrase. I was referring to the arcade community-at-large. One thing I've noticed in the community is when somebody watches a YouTube video there's suddenly an expert and when I looked at other places people just either gave me the Wikipedia tagline or told me just to toss it. I believe I know of one other Red Wave variant that I haven't seen anywhere else. It's actually on location in my town but I haven't been able to get them to let me copy the ROMs. It's in a casino type environment and they generally don't like you messing around with their stuff

I did it really quick YouTube video of a hair of the gameplay it's not very good but again it looks like the other Quicken and it looks a little bit like red wave. It also has a slow fire balls and probably some other tricks I haven't seen yet Zangief seems to be able to go backwards quicker but not so much forward. Kind of making it my mission to catalog and start to write the information down from all these different rainbows and quick and additions out there

Uh... Sorry to be such a negative nancy but honestly who cares?
All the Rainbow editions are hacked up bullshit, not official, not balanced, not canon, not anything.

I'd pull that chip and reprogram it to be a real WW like yesterday.

That's one way to look at it... I see it as feeding a cancer that should have been cut out and destroyed long ago.
Trash don't deserve preservation.

I grew up playing mainly the Koryu version where each of the games were decided in the first 2 or 3 seconds and the games lasted 5 to 15 seconds on an average. I can tell you its really a different and nice experience playing these. Yes these arent official but doesnt meant they arent fun :D .

Having said that it is not interesting playing against the computers but against human opponents most characters had different powers which make it surprisingly balanced. Basically the first 3 seconds were the most crucial. Not very skill based but really fun.

I love competition, and that can only truly exist if we can all agree on the ground rules.
These bastard Rainbow variants take that rule book and toss it out the window in favor of flash/glitz.

Sure they might be fun, in the same way just saying "fuck it" and picking up the soccer ball and throwing it at the goalie would be fun.
But are you even playing soccer anymore? Who wins? Chaos!

I dont know if you are aware of the Blanka, Ryu and M.Bison moves (a bit hazy though).

1. Blanka can trap you with the electric thing trapping you in the corner till you die.
2. Ryu and Ken : Do the short punch shoryuken twice, fill the screen with dragon punches and then attack, game over.
3. M. Bison inflict more damage on the opponent and fly 3 levels up the screen and keep flying. Time will run you and the opponent wont be able to catch you.

Maybe these moves are present in these games too.

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and few other official titles borrowed features from these hacks too.

You aren't playing soccer anymore and as long as you are comfortable playing a different game you might enjoy it. Didn't Rugby develop when a player decided to fuck the existing rules and picked up the ball and started running? And then came AFL played down under :P And American Football with all the protection ;P

These games are like casual party games where people are about fun and not necessarily grinding competition. For that you need SSF2T or something different I guess.

Maybe you need to try these games against someone who know how to play it and you will change your mind about them ;)

I can tell you that in SE Asia at least these games were favoured by a lot of arcade players and (arcade operators because the games ended quickly - 80% faster than official games which made them a lot more money). But because these were not official you would never have competitions based on these. Infact sf2 Hyper came after the bootlegs which sort of means that the official release adopted part of the bootleg's hacks as official.
