Interest Check: Darksoft Naomi Multi Flash Cart- Unofficial

Holy Crap!

This thread is still going strong! Looks like there is a huge demand for a Naomi Multi Cart.

Anyone care to go through this thread and count the total so far to nudge along Darksoft and the Gang?

:D

Something like the Jorge 2-in-1 cart, only ALL the games and a little LCD screen mounted to it for switching 'em (SD card port for updating game code/legal distribution reasons). ;)

I need this if it happens. Been wanting to pick up a Naomi for a while but couldn't justify seeking out a Netdimm. This would make me finally take the plunge.

So you can’t justify seeking out a netdim, but are willing to wait for an unfinished product? Interesting :)

Netdims are cake to find. I doubt this cart will be cheaper, and if so not by much!

Let’s all keep holding our breath diligently

But it does assist with not requiring an external power source if used on a supergun... Either way.. I'm all in on it

Yea that's why I want a multi cart, well that and more or less instant loading.

NetDIMM can't be powered with a Capcom IO, and NetDIMM must reboot no less than three times to launch a game.
Also yea that price, I personally don't think the DIMM should ever be much more than 100$, yet I've seen 'em for 200$+.

Yeah I always recommend not using a netdimm. Nothing worse than lugging out an extra power supply just to power your capcom i/o. Ugh.

Not to mention the long boot time. I mean, the naomi boots super fast as it is, no sense in adding a few seconds. I want my game on NOW.

And the cost! Mama mia. Those ebay prices are killing the wallet.

Yeah, so if anyone has a netdimm, I'd be happy to take you out of your misery and take them off your hands.

Haha, well at this point NetBoot/PiForce is the best you're going to get... So its something of a catch 22.
All Naomi owners want it, but we must then endure all the pitfalls of it.

Really I think we would have seen a larger community effort towards something like a true multi cart if it wasn't for the "good enough" derailment of NetBooting.
This is where we are today... Trying to convince the folks with enough talent to make such a device a reality that Netbooting is NOT GOOD ENOUGH and WE WILL BANK ROLL BETTER!

As fast as “best”... @fsckewe and always try to “be best”. So we out here doing our own thing. https://github.com/ArcadeHustle/pi0-netboot

I personally just swap USB sticks when I wanna change games. Rebooting three times sounds like you have some dead batteries :)

Soon as I can get this GPIO read to handle dip switches, potentiometer, or optical encoder input the multi is done for us. Alas, I digress.

It is also clear many of you don’t own actual cabs to put your gear in, which makes your requirements different.

Dead? I straight up don't have a battery installed period.
This would also be a theoretical multi cart feature, backing up user data to a SD card and restoring said data on boot.
Batteries belong in the trash can, not on my PCBs where they could leak and cause damage.

Understood... I just wanted to point out that your choice doesn’t necessarily equate to the standard experience. Your boot times are exaggerated by choice. It is a trade off in maintenance for sure.

IDK, the netdimm solution just seems a bit convoluted and requiring too much extra hardware to justify. Plus space is an issue and I'm going through a supergun so I like to keep my setup as simple as possible.

I'm happy to spend a premium on a simple solution like the Darksoft CPS2 for example, but needing an extra PSU, Raspberry PI, finding a netdimm, etc...just doesn't seem worth the hassle IMO. Maybe if I had a cab I wouldn't mind as much..

i screwed all down on one piece of wood (sun, naomi, sega io and pi) - not exactly pretty but gets the job done - however, i wouldn't say no to a cleaner setup.

@Finisterre sorry if it's a dumb question, but what has the absence of the battery to do with the number of reboots when flashing the game?

I was thinking about buying new car, something like new Camry, but...
I think Camry too slow, I'd like it to be 2x faster.
also its not super easy to use, it definitely needs to be same smart as Tesla.
power fuel consumption IMO is too high, it should be much smaller.
Also yea that price, $30000 is not right, I personally don't think such car should ever be much more than half of that price, i.e. $15K...

PS: sorry for offtopic, but it sounds about the same as most of messages in this topic :P

@MetalliC, can you post your location information? I'd like you to join me car shopping...
