Retro Scaler A1

i had Rancor reach out to the manufacturer of Taito’s new 1080p screens to see if there is an extended/service menu. i cant believe that there isnt an option for it not to stretch the image, it just doesnt make sense.

i would be willing to open up one of the screens to see if the firmware can be dumped/updated/hacked to allow adjustment for the aspect ratio.

You may want to consider taking advantage of the Norwegian NOK. Norway is an oil-fueled economy, and with Corona + OPEC vs Russia - the NOK has taken a big hit.

At launch, the scaler was 223 USD, today it's 177.5 according to google.

I just bought another of these scalers, had to take advantage of the savings brother. Thanks for not raising the price.

The A1 is an amazing little device, so far very impressed, literally plug and play, no settings to deal with.
So far its been getting boards to play nice with my lcds, even if that was not the intended purpose.

If you need to scale up your jamma games this is the way to do it.

does it look good with the cps2 and cps3 on a vewlix?

i dont see why it would not, but i havent tried it yet. the scaler does work with those systems. There is a list of tested boards over at irkenlabs.com.

Ok, you can add the following games as working:

Brezzasoft Crystal System - all games
Taito F2 - PuLiRulA

Updated - thanks for test report and for cool pics! By now I'm pretty confident that the only non-working arcade stuff is a couple of Toaplan v2 titles, that other scalers also struggle with.

Maybe in time you will figure those out too, thanks for an awesome, solid product. That Jammafier/Retroscaler is one hell of a combination

I haven't turned my DISPL back on since I started using mine. This is the best upscan converter I have used. Nothing comes close.

Ok, I was testing the A1/Jammafier setup with the PGM on the Vewlix with Taito's latest 1080p screens and it would not sync properly, kept bouncing in and out. So Installed the tri-sync helper and it fixed the sync issue, so very happy, Demon Front looks great :)

I have been noticing that some systems/pcb benefit from the tri-syn helper and some dont, it actually makes them not work.

@invzim Is there any way to leave the tri-sync and enable/disable it? Maybe with a switch to the 5V jumper? Or can it not passthru the signal when powered off?

PGM is on the confirmed list, so should be ok. Do the leds on the A1 change while unstable? Best is if you can do a debug by placing a file called "rsa1debug.txt" on an sd-card so I can check what's going on.

There should be no need/benefit of having a tri-sync helper in front, it would actually complicate things a bit as the A1 has one on-board so to speak.

ill do the debug and test with another pgm as well.

Of course my use case is not what the A1 is was intended for, but the fact that it works for me in my crazy setup is a win :)

Is your demon front a pcb or cartridge? I noticed extremely low sync on my dedicated board which messes with the scaler and some crts

Edit: do you have an oscilloscope? There's points you can test from the 4p breakout for the sync signal. If it's a pcb would be interesting to see if the levels are the same. Since it comes directly off a custom it could just be a shitty circuit that needs corrected but I'd like to see a similar scope reading.

Yeah, if it's a weak sync signal (really a hardware fault), setting sync=scart may 'fix it' - can you try this @Derick2k? Just edit the .ini file that is generated by the scaler.

Alright, changed sync to scart and no effect, same as with Sync=ttl setting.

1st boot up with sync=scart setting - NO tri-sync helper, syncs in/out - no image.
2nd boot up with sync=scart setting - WITH tri-sync helper, syncs is good - system plays fine

Let me know if you want me to try anything else. Hope this helps in some way :) Im just happy to get it working, love playing demon front.
