Why is the Pandora not Jamma? What does it connect to?

I think they did it that way on purpose to sell jamma adapters...

:D

It is JAMMA, but like all these Chinese arcade boxes they add in the extra buttons instead of a kick harness on the edge connector so you need the adapter to connect your existing kick harness to the Pandora unless you want to hack into your JAMMA edge

Buttons 1-6 all go to the JAMMA edge connector.

So on a standard JAMMA cab button 6 is always pressed as the last two pins are usually ground and you only get buttons 1-3 or 1-4 that work (depending on what's wired up).

I think the Test/Service buttons are swapped as well.

100% of MVS games are horizontal resolution, the vertical shooters like Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings are vertical games but play on a horizontal monitor like 1944 on CPS2 :)
Neo XYX is vertical.

Atomiswave has buttons 1-5 on the jamma edge as well. Sega cabs are wired for this. It's just the sixth button / common ground you would have to modify.

Neo XYX isn't made to SNK specs since it was made well after the platform was discontinued :P - I believe it still supports horizontal mode though so it can be played in Neo dedicated cabinets.

And it comes in a wood case! At first I thought it was a plastic case with a wood grain pattern. But nope! It's real wood!

:D

See the 3:00 mark.

Hello Everyone! Quick question, we want to swap out the buttons, since they're old and need replacing, but right now since the panel has been "Americanized" it has HAPP buttons in it, as you can tell from the photos I shared. Can we switch the buttons for Sanwa style instead, and just hook up the connectors to the 2 prongs that are on the bottom of the Sanwa buttons? How does that work? Or do we have to stick with HAPP? Thanks guys!

The holes need to be 30mm for Japanese buttons. If they're not, you can use a step drill bit -- sometimes not the easiest job but it works most of the time if you drill patiently. Otherwise, yes, the connections are the same.

streetfighterken: Thanks for that information. The holes are currently 30mm, so that being the case, will the Sanwa buttons work in terms of being able to just slide the little connectors onto the 2 prongs?

No. Happ and Sanwa buttons do not use the same size connector. Happ uses .187" connectors, Sanwa uses .110" connectors. They'll just fall off the Sanwa buttons. You can probably ghetto crimp them, but if you want it done right you need to order the right connectors and redo them. Not a huge deal, just cut the wires, strip, and crimp. Basic wire strippers are the only tool you'll need, no soldering or anything tricky involved.

I mean connectors like this: https://www.focusattack.com/philmore-110-non-insulated-quick-disconnect-terminal/

Two different opinions. I would get the buttons first and then if you aren't happy with the connectors, worry about replacing them then.

Thanks Mitsurugi-w, yeah, I was kind of confused because of that. Thanks for the input though!

if your going for Japanese buttons get screw in ones as they work better if the holes are a bit rough or the panel isn't the same thickness as a standard panel.

Hey Everyone! So update on the Cab is that we took off the marquee cover, and noticed that the actual screen was removed! Bummer. It still has the wiring, but no screen. Does anyone know where we can get a marquee for our cab?? Specifically one that is CHEAP, because we are not trying to spend hundreds of dollars on one. Any info is much appreciated as always! Thank you!

That sucks. Cyberlead parts are hard to come by, especially that panel. I suspect you'll be without one for quite some time if not forever.

The DMD marquee needs more than the screen to function, there's a pair of I/O boards that drive it which have also been removed from your cab, the I/O board from behind the memory card readers in particular is extremely rare (I've been trying to find a spare since I got my cab)

The screen has been removed because it won't function properly, the cab has had all original wiring removed and replaced with JAMMA standard wiring instead

It's the same style of screen as a pinball DMD so I imagine you could replace it, but not the other parts

You can still get a reproduction marquee holder that sits behind the screen (I have one on mine)

The DMD doesn't do much unless you have one of about half a dozen Namco games plugged into it and even then they need to be plugged in via JVS. Apart from that it just scrolls a few built in messages
