What's new

A CAVE Multi is doable for sure, who wants to dig in

I call FPGA hardware emulation instead of what we are used too, software emulation.
Yeah, I think it is lightly open to interpretation, but according to the definition of the word emulation, I'd agree with you.

The thing people need to remember is, the emulation on the hardware side can be as flawed, or more so, than software emulation. But if they are both 100% equal, then likely the FPGA solution will have less lag due to the system itself. Of course, software emulation can employ tactics to reduce lag that, while not 100% true to the source, can greatly offset it's natural delay and improve the experience for the player.

I say simulation because an emulator acts like a translation layer, adapting the differences between hardware in software.
With a FPGA you are configuring the gates to copy/clone the original hardwares design...
It's not a translation at that point, but a reconfiguration of available resources to simulate original hardware function.

I wonder what the Altera EPM7032 (MAX 7000 Series) at U13 actually does.. Anyone who knows?
it is I/O control chip for RTC, YMZ, NAND. why you asking ?

... in a perfect World ;)
in reality, FPGA gates logic often created based on software emulation, or existing documentation which is usually does not explain all details, so results is same (in)accurate.

With all these game companies cashing in on retrogaming and being that Cave should still have a large following I dont understand why they dont re-release or updated their games and release them in pcbs again that can used in both jamma/jvs cabs or hooked up to home setups, something similar to the CPS Changer, just better.

Shmups are a niche hobby inside of the already niche arcade hobby. I don't think there's enough of a market for how much it would cost, as much as I too would like some sort of new product out of Cave for their old games (at least we have M2 and City Connection I guess?).

Ofcourse, Im just wishful thinking :D re-release their 90s arcade games in one pcb/collection

@Derick2k My ever so slightly more realistic wish is to see an updated Cave Shooting Collection that fixed the 360 ports issues. Just let M2 handle the entire thing, having it come out with the same level of polish as the Ketsui and Battle Garegga PS4 ports.

Agree with the PS4 route

I'm not sure if you really want it to be updated :)
that's what happened with iOS ver Deathsmiles when it was updated from 32-bit to 64-bit

@twistedsymphony the Cave version reads more like...
"We made a good games like a decade ago, now we are just cashing in on the back catalog with zero fucks given."

or I the shorter version...
"Oh you'll buy it, you'll buy anything we stick our logo on, WINNING!"

Why do we "respect" this company so much again?
Oh yea we don't, we are just afraid of legal action. *shakes head*

And its not dumpable either (as far as I know).
It could be decapped, layers peeled back with CMP process one-by-one grabbing a SEM image every time.
Nothing is "undumpable" if it was made by human hands it can be unmade by human hands.

We don't want to have issues with CAVE, so let's keep it as it is.

@Mitsurugi-w
Guys, if Darksoft & Mitsu wish for there not to be discussions that could potentially lead to issues with Cave, etc...then please respect that. Im sure they dont mind conversations related to techniques or processes of doing something in relation to whats being asked in this thread :)

I think the confusion is that this thread is over a year old and it's only once the thread went off topic to emulation and home ports that we're getting a warning.

Are we not allowed to talk about Cave emulation and home ports?
