What's new

A mouse f****** my Cyber Lead. Time for a restoration.

I quickly knocked up some marquee art which was based on the instructions spaces I did (which were based off the control panel). I’ll get the proportions right next time.

Here’s the home made insert coin decal. Done in pages on the iMac. Printed at Officeworks and then laminated on the top with clear contact and double sided adhesive sheet applied to the back.

All the while trying to reproduce the yellow warning stickers I had a reproduction one from an ebay seller a while back. The top one is original and the bottom is the repro.

The back panel looks awesome. Such a huge piece of shiny powder coated steel. I can’t work on the machine for a week now so have packed it away to resume the final wire routing, applying side decals, monitor setup and troubleshooting when I get a chance. I also don’t like wheeling the machine around without the back panel on. It’s a big part of the cabinet!s rigidity. All the screws hold snuggly bar one that stripped. I’ll fix that later. The code box was so tight with powder coat reducing the fit tolerance but I got it in there

Okay I’m back. Been sick but got a bit more tidying up done today. I put a connector between the power and earth cables, joined the earth cable where it had a splicing thing on it and I re-pinned the code box 5v from the dodgy one I soldered together while waiting for new pins. I also put in an RCA splitter after reading online that this will give me better dual mono than the existing system. At the moment one speaker is louder than the other and this will hopefully fix that. I’ll be using a Mistercade in any case so will see what that sounds like bypassing the JAMMA/JVS board all together.

I also put the decals on. They’re very nice. Not as nice as the originals which were I believe screen printed and therefore had much more buttery looking inks. But these are good enough for sure. Quite a process. Probably $200AUD to get the artwork reproduced and then printed.

This cab is perfect but must admit I am more of a fan of the solid color buttons and none of clear/chrome type.

Well done.
That’s fair enough. I’ve got eight cabs now so was trying something different while also using some buttons I already had. No doubt I’ll change them up in the future.

So a little bit more cable management today and getting rid of some powder coat so the back panel down to the code box is all properly grounded. The Dremel wandered off on me and there was a bit of cursing going on. One final check I’m happy with the cables and I slotted the code box into place.

I installed the Mistercade and remote board. We have glorious stereo! I adjusted the picture in a brighter part of the day and can probably lower the contrast a tad. It’s looking good though. Convergence and geometry are excellent. Tomorrow I’ll be ready to bring it into the house 🤙🏼

The namco JVS to Jamma adapter can make the video soft/blurry. I'd just connect VGA directly to the mister, or replace it with a jammafier.

Thanks for the tip. I did think that before the restoration that Demon Front did look a bit blurry. My eyes at gaming distance aren’t great but I’ll give that a try.
