After two years, me and an rl friend managed to get the Ghost Squad cab running on CF. I'm giving a +1 to cftools.

For the best results, I suggest extracting (and decrypting) the game binary from the mame chd dump of the GD-ROM. I've experienced a bad Ghost Squad dump I found online that would load to 99% and then give an error 26.

Virtua Cop 3 also works on that cab (using a Type 2 JVS board let alone in deluxe mode where it can do interesting output behavior to the gun solenoids). House of the Dead 3 on the other hand is incompatible and punts with "Error 12: JVS I/O board does not fulfill the game spec" after the game loads. I myself won't go through the trouble of changing a lot of wiring just to get Hod3 working in this cab.

Does anyone have a link to a complete walkthru on how to setup a NAOMI for CF booting ? I.e. firmware upgrade, jumpers, CF reader etc... ?

Mini guide:
1. you need a DIM board with 4.02 Firmware (4.01 added official CF support, 4.02 is a hacked release that allows any CF card to work).
* Normal DIMM boards can work but you'll need to remove the flash chip and program it directly for the FW upgrade.
* You'll want 512MB RAM for maximum compatibility
2. DIMM board jumpers should be set the same as GD-ROM booting:

3. you need a CF compatible Zero Key (unsure if this is the same as the NetBoot Zero keys or if there are differences)
4. you need an official CF adapter or a Repo with an SCSI cable and power cable
Mitsu makes a repo: https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/naomi-cf-kit-and-dimm-conversion-services.11/
Tailsnic make a compact unit: https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/naomi-cf-compact-flash-reader-by-request.9189/
there are other options out there too.

Everything runs on the latest version of Windows, you have to be administrator.

To read out the sector you need a proper IDE/SATA interface in your machine a multimedia adapter will not work.

I know it's an old comment but I have all gun games running on my chihiro with a jvs type 3. Which is the same shape and pin out as a type 1 but includes an extra output header.

Just ran HOTD3 on this setup for a party last weekend

@twistedsymphony what model number do you mean by Type 3 ?
type 1 = 837-13551 - the original JVS IO
type 2 = 837-13844 / 837-13741 / 837-13841 / 837-14645 - weird form factor and various configs for racing/sim cabs
type 1.5 = 837-14505 - half way between type 1 and type 3 used on Lindburgh Universal Cabs
type 3 = 837-14572 - updated version of a Type 1 with more modern components and an extra lamp output connector
IO4 = 837-15257 - updated version of Type 3 that includes USB HID in addition to JVS for Ringedge Nu & Alls System

Type 3 is my favorite JVS IO, it has great compatibility with the more modern JVS games and supports everything but some of the weirder edge case stuff that only a type 2 does. it also seems to be the cheapest out of the JVS IOs for some reason.

I think the only game that's ever given me grief with that IO is Initial D as it seems to look for a very specific IO config and claims it doesn't have the necessary features (even though it does)

@rtw any possibility we can use something larger than 2gb? All of my CF cards that i got the ID out of many moons ago are all 8gb and i longer have access to the IDE set up needed to get the IDs off newer cards

I am sorry but the 2GB is a hardware limitation of the NAOMI and the maximum size for FAT16.

There might be another way to get the sector, but I would need to investigate

I wrote to these cards before, using naomiCF application, even though they were 8GB cards, is this different?
