DARKSOFT CPS2 Multikit: Instructions and videos (old version till 10.2020)

I found some discussion about sound distortion on earlier boards, and a fix required to the U34 chip (either a PCB or just wires.) It doesn't look like my board has either of these, I haven't noticed any distortion yet but I haven't been listening for it either. Can anyone tell if my board would be effected from the serial number?

Thanks all, I’m only using it through a crude Supergun to my CRT so the mono sound isn’t great anyway, I’ll try hooking it up to my stereo to see how noticeable the crackle is. I’m obviously not expecting vendor support on a 10 year old second hand PCB, and looks too difficult to do myself so may have to live with it. As I said I haven’t actually noticed it yet anyway.

@ShootTheCore I appreciate the offer, I’m not too fussed about the firmware as my SD card works fine and I’m content with decrypted ROMs. The only game I haven't been able to get working yet is SF2 New Legacy, I assume it must be encrypted as just get a black screen? Are any of the older releases (current is 0.9) compatible? Not a deal breaker, but curious to try it out.

Well somehow I seem to have killed it by installing the reset wire?

I first checked that I have the original pre-2017 firmware, I put the update image on a blank SD card and there appears to be no bootloader, so nothing happened. I then followed the instructions, very carefully soldering SWD5 to B28 on CN1.

I have done plenty of soldering before, used a low temperature and flux, no damage to the pad and (IMO) nice tidy soldering to both pads/pins.

I then powered it on, and just a black screen. So I tried flashing a game, it finished flashing but then did not reset and showed the "Done! Reset" message on the LCD. Every game now just results in a black screen. I have tried reseating the A and B boards multiple times, I have also tried cutting the wire in the middle to effectively remove the mod and still the same behaviour.

What on earth could I have done? :(

I decided to unsolder the wires and it is now thankfully working again, I guess there's a small chance I had shorted something with my soldering? But doesn't look like it from the photos. I don't think I'll risk trying it again!

No because it's a hardware problem.
Do you happen to know where on the first gen CPS2 multi the audio section is generated for me to check? This kit works flawless except for audio - there is none generated either over JAMMA or QSound after the older “crackle” wire fix was done.

And use the verify rossetti to be sure that the flashes are OK as well.
