What's new
Hi, my cartridge came today. It's having some graphical issues where horizontal lines are flickering across the screen. You can see them on the Dark soft logo and in the background of AoF3 in the images below.

which motherboard are you using? Did you check your power? 5V at the cartridge edge? What type of microSD are you using? and finally, which BIOS are you using?

PLMK.

I'm using a consolized MV1FZ with Unibios 4.0 and a SanDisk Ultra 32 GB microSDHC. I haven't checked the power how would I do that?

Consolized? Can you show some pictures of your NeoGeo setup? Including the PSU, please.

 What is that? Looks like an AES, not a MVS. What is actually inside an AES or a MVS motherboard? How do you insert the cartridge? Do you use a MVS to AES adapter?

It's an MVS that is made to look like an AES and takes MVS cartridges directly. I bought it on AliExpress a few years ago after picking up some MVS games from a local arcade that was closing down.
this looks like the same one https://a.aliexpress.com/_EJMdwOd

Yeah, that is a bit far away in many ways from original Hardware. I would say that those glitches come from the PSU or some bad caps in the motherboard, sometimes a bad chip can have that effect too as it introduces noise in the PCB. Do you have another MVS motherboard where you can test it? Does it happen in all games?

Yeah, I can see they've changed quite a bit. I don't have another MVS at the minute to test but I have all of the Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury games and they work without any issues.

Looking at it they have removed the Neo-Buf chip, could that be the issue?

Hello, I received my cart in the mail yesterday and have experienced some strange behavior similar to that seen with the original run of the MultiMVS carts and the MV1FS.

Tested using:
MV1FS (my only board)
CR2032 mod with new battery
Original US BIOS and UNIBIOS 4.0
HAS V5.0
RT-125A PSU
32 GB Sandisk MicroSD SDHC
Card formatted FAT32 at 64 KB Cluster
Menu 20230322
Firmware 20200602_r1169

Issues experienced:

1. Reboots, black screens - The closer to 5V I run, the more severe the reboots get. Sometimes the cart refuses to boot entirely, or hangs when attempting to use hook to return to menu. I had to continue to step down my voltage all the way down to 4.56v which seems to have helped. Even at 4.57v I had some random rebooting in game.

2. Audio issues - Sometimes audio seems to cut out or partial track audio, but his may have to do with having to run at low voltages to prevent reboots/hangs. Seems to happen in both Stereo and Mono mode.

3. Minor glitching - I have seen, mostly in the menu, minor line glitches especially when scrolling. This may be expected behavior, I am not sure, voltage doesn't really seem to matter as much for this.

I have no issues running real carts such as KOF 96 or SamSho II, or even my 161-1.

Thoughts? Is the MV1FS still problematic with the newer carts? Bad caps maybe?

Thanks

To me the problem is with one of those mods or a bad part in the motherboard.

I've seen this behaviour before on motherboards that have problems with some chips, or bad caps.

It doesn't matter how beefy the power supply is, if the conversion to 5v can't supply enough for the multi cart there will be trouble. How are those 5V generated?

I don't see anthing out of the ordinary there. How do you power that Mobo?

Please make sure that you have this option disabled if you have UNIBIOS

I'm not sure if this feature is new to version 4 of unibios but
with "Disable BootUp HW Test" enabled: the MVS ignores the cart until I do a soft reboot

with "Disable BootUp HW Test" disabled: the MVS acts like Mitsu shows in the youtube video shown in the manual. It recognizes the cart almost immediately.
