What's new

Having some troubles with my first Netdimm at Naomi

Hmm, never seen a "System Menu" screen mentioning "Australia version" before like in your picture, can you switch the multibios (assuming that is what you have) to Japan?

Tommorow or Saturday i get a new psu with more power...

I switched the regions often when i tested the gd rom drive.

for the record the official sega ps for naomi 2, with netdimm, is 163W max.

Yeah i believe it too, i only want to check another psu then mine atm. Maybe its broke, idk

It's not the watts, from my recent experiences setting up a Naomi and netdimm. The Naomi and netdimm need a psu that can supply it a constant 5A on the 3.3v line plus whatever is needed on the 5v and 12v , this also appears to be why you can't power a Naomi netdimm setup off a Capcom I/O as the 3.3v converter cant cope with a 5A load.

I am no expert with atx psu power for a Naomi but I am guessing its not about the watts, just that the 600w ATX psu is able to cope with the the 5A while the 450w cannot. I guess all that work the psu manufacturers put into marketing more watts has people thinking watts over amps. Funny that.

Thank you
If I understand it ….
It draws more power. More Amps
It draws lesss power. Less amps

My 350 watt ATX psu ( low grade )
Isn’t broken But won’t power Naomi & net dimm

But it will power Naomi with cart game no issues .

no network settings symptom Is mentioned as bad or incorrect bios …

Are the H revision and multi bios Diffrent ?

Is multi bios a custom non original sega hack ?

I have 2 net dimms same symptoms as yours Mike ..
I got new memory sticks but have not tested yet and I’m out of my home country so can’t test till mid January sadly ..

On a positive …. If yours is faulty ..
It breaks down to 3 pcb … so you will have some good parts 👍.

Yes security zero chip Pic needs to be inserted with the small c shape in one end matching the white outline printed on the pcb .

Also side note : most likely not your issue : but - Deoxit Gold - cleans the gold contacts between connections to improve connectivity . Just for good practice to make the contacts bright again 👍

Sort of. Amps is the rate of electrical flow, Watts is the rate of consumption so it's a bit different but the rate of flow is part of the equation. Clear as mud?

Most likely not broken, almost certainly won't power a Naomi and Netdimm.

Yep, Naomi is fun isn't it?

Likely but could be a number of issues. Get the 3.3v voltage correct, the Netdimm seated correctly and work from there.

Clearly, one is a multibios and one is not. I think the answer to the question you mean to be asking is "the multibios is based on the H revision and if you have the latest revision of the multibios it supports Netdimm and netboot. Not sure about other revisions as I have only used the latest"
Is multi bios a custom non original sega hack ?
That's not the nicest way to put it but essentially yes. While earlier revisions had some issues the latest revision seems to have fixed all issues and I have not had any issues running it.

Hope that helps. Setting up the Naomi was not fun but the guides here are good and should help you iron out any issues. My guess is that the Netdimm is not working. They are not to hard to diagnose and repair.

Thank you ..
Apologies for the crude language …
I wrote it in the middle of the night,

I was trying to help if the guys bios may have been part of the issue.

I doubt that though ..
I went though all my dimms /netdimms testing recently,

From 8 I have 6 good working.

2 have same symptom as Mike above It just won’t show up …. No network settings option..

I kinda figured they are dead ( main board failer …. I have no idea.

But I have got some new dimms but have not tried them yet.. plan is to swap the top pcb’s and try new dimms just to see if I get any joy.

I’m not tech savvy but I will try everything I can swapping parts around.

I know the rams have a high fail rate.
I have the tools to change ram and some ram, but don’t have the experience yet with the hot air station .. ( plan to practice on old pc mother boards and the like removing chips .. before touching anything worthwhile 👍

I was only having some fun, I have been following the thread from the start and when I replied I thought you were the one asking for the assistance, so I am probably the fool here. I went back I realised that I got that wrong. I put off setting up a Naomi for ages because netbooting is a pain, @twistedsymphony gave a really great reply to an earlier thread I had posted which in combination with the guides helped a lot. Its still a really fussy system about a whole heap of things and I still have a few issues with the netdimm. Mine was in a box for 10+ years and had an old dodgy trace repair (that I probably completed about 15 years ago). That was a nice wake up to how much my soldering skills have improved while my eyes have degraded. While I am sure I could fix the trace better now I cant find the break even when I know the area it is in, but that may also have been why at the time I went from a via to a solder point rather than just fix the actual trace, who knows.

Sorry if we are going of point!
:) Mike 👍🤞😎

Good luck today hope you get some progress .. who knows maybe your new power supply helps

forget if I have seen this before
But just saw this …
gD rom Case designed to mate with the Naomi.

The RAM test looks positive.

The new Screws fixed netdimm tight.

New psu with 750 works fine.

But, no netdimm options in Test Menu.

Maybe the Ram tests are bad? Maybe it looks allfine but one of the Ram are broke?

I will test it again with and without ram, soon.

Yes i am.

I have a multi bios i wrote before.

Do you know difference's, good and bad things from some Bios Chips?

Yeh I thought you mentioned the multi ..
Well all you have done is ok I think so
Seems you have a bad net dimm

I have 2 net dimm the same I need to try back in uk mid jan though with new dimms on mine …

Not sure if we can find the fault maybe ?

I have good net Dimms so I am going to swap parts of the three pcbs between known good parts . To find bad pcb but most likely the main large pcb

I know the carts have a gateway ram ( main ram .) so maybe the net dimm the same and has 1 bad ram unfortunately

You in Germany
