IDE DVD-ROMs for the 246/256 that do and don't work

Is this thread still the best place to check for IDE DVD-ROM drives for System246 or is there a new thread somewhere? Thank you!

Just purchased this guy off ebay - LG Electronics GDR-8163B - to try with Tekken 4

This is the thread to say if it worked or not, and on particularly difficult games like Tekken 4.... does it?

I'll let you know when I receive it, just wasn't sure since no posts in a while. I'm in Anaheim fyi if you ever have anything up for sale. Thank you!

Tekken 4 is difficult because it expects a drive that does not stop the disc ever. Due to US EPA's "Energy Star" program requirements all modern DVD ROM drives stop the disc if no access is performed within a set interval in seconds. Tekken 4 does not attempt to read the disc during the demonstration giving the drive enough time for it to enter energy saving mode and that mean it stops the disc. When Tekken 4 requests more data to playback the volcano movie at the next attract cycle the drive takes too long to respond because the disc is stopped. The game gives up and stalls.

Got a few drives to add to the list:

Toshiba SD-M1502: boots, but hangs, when running T4

Samsung SD-608: does not boot T4 at all.

BenQ DD185G: boots, but eventually crashes, when running T4

Do this simple test to know if the drive will crash on T4:
Connect the drive to a power supply (no need to connect the data cable) and insert a DVD disc in it.
If the disc stops after a time the drive will crash T4. Only drives that don't stop the disc will work with T4.

I see you have a Toshiba SD-M1502 on your list with no games associated. Mine may have been in a SC2 at one point, but I couldn't verify that. All I know is it doesn't work with T4.

It's not out yet, and seems to only be CD. Perhaps they'll add DVD functionality, but reading the blog, that is unlikely.

With PicoIDE we can have multiple Namco System 246 / 56 DVD games on a single hard drive? Or is the best use case emulating / switching between the hard drive images on System 357/369?

Or does it only support cds?

Or is IDE simulator better suited for either of those?
