Delivered!
Sadly I have to report the carboard box had a minor dent and it is missing the invzim/IrkenLabs logo :P
And someone is enjoying the 2 meter of original bubble wrap.

Hi Invzim, got one of these and I'm rather impressed with the build quality.
Happy customer here !

Got a question though : what did you use for managing keyboard and controllers ?
Mister is interfaced with the expander through USB and I was wondering which protocol did you use and how fast is it reacting against say daemonbite thingie or brooks ufb ?

Almost forgot : do we have to run fast usb polling script on the mister as well ? Not that I did experience any input lag but for the sake of my mind, I really had to ask.

Sorry for the noob question, (i've read this thread and the docs on irkenlabs but can't quite figure it out!).
Just got my expander (it rocks) and am using it with a jammafier in a JVS (net city) cab.
Do I need to build a kick harness to have all 6 buttons or does the jammafier/expander do this by default in this combination?

Thanks,

from Irkenlabs Product overview:
Jamma Expander:
5 or 6 buttons on JAMMA edge
so, jamma expander no problem.

Jammafier:
  • Buttons 1-5 on Jamma connector
  • Buttons 4-6 on auxilary ‘kick’ connector
buttons 1-5 on Jamma Edge, for button 6 it looks like you need a kickharness.

I'd guess your best route would be a completely populted kickharness for cps2 to the Jammafier, that should certainly work, and sets you up for some other stuff in the future because most community-bulit boards use the CPS2 connector as well when they need the extended button layout

But please someone with a JVS cab chime in, i only have jamma cabinets

The real question here is rather : why would you go through the hassle of connecting a jammafier and an expander to a jvs cab when all you needed was a simple jvspac2 ? Just wondering ?

Anyways for both scenario you’ll need this, i.e amp10 connector on the panel side to cps2 kick harness connector on the expander :

As long as you're using the jammafier, JVS does not come into play.
You need a JST-XH to CPS2 kick harness, same as RGB HAS supergun.

The Jammafier has buttons 1-5 on jamma edge, and buttons 4-6 on kick, so in theory you only need to wire up button 6, but probably best to get one with buttons 4-6.

@invzim Thank you for the concise answer 👍 i'll get a kick harness made up.

And thanks everyone else that chimed in 😊

@totozero I do have a jvspac as well, but I primarily use that for my mame PC. The jammafier/jamma expander jut seemed the right way to do it to me.

Hi,

I would like to know if anyone tried and successfully made the X68k core working on a 15Khz display?
For some other solutions out there that are interfacing with mister they managed to do it using some overriding parameters for the platform.

For example, one user used the following parameters for this core:

[X68000]
vga_scaler=1
video_mode=320,16,32,56,256,4,3,19,6630
vsync_adjust=2
Version 320x256

I'm not expecting these parameters to work on the solution using irken's board as it seems to leverage the vga scaling output which is not used in irken's case (this is my guess).

Another user used the following parameters for this core (with another interfacing solution):

[X68000]
direct_video=0
vga_scaler=1
vsync_adjust=0
vscale_mode=1
video_mode=512,32,48,64,224,13,3,23,10330

But there should be some very close parameters (I'll test some different configurations during the week-end) that should work and allow to work.
As a test case, I'm just trying to play cho ren sha 68k on my astro city using the mister and irken's board.

thanks in advance.

Anyone here that can help me understand why the jamma expander would report C1 being pressed on and off again all the time, while other hardware on the same cab does not? For example MVS hardware and its input test menu. I'm trying to troubleshoot what might be the issue of controls not working in this cab with the jamma expander.

Sounds like coin in your cab is not stable - trace the cable from the jamma harness and see where it ends up or if it has loose connections. You could also try it in a different cab if you have access to one.

It could be a bug, but try formatting it with a fat that is not exFat if you haven't tried that.

It's an odd bug, doesn't give any failure coded but only a few characters are written to the .ini file.

Has anyone had any success in getting controls on Spartan X/Kung Fu working? The game boots and I can coin up, but inputs won't work even if I hard map the controls in the menus.

Donkey Kong 3 core also won't boot at all, it just crashes back to the menu. Going to guess both of these issues are due to neither of these games being JAMMA.

I will try the new FW soon, I promise!

Both works correctly on my unit . I tested all Irem M62 games and they working . Also , i learned how to use the gamepad mode too …. In theory , all arcades works in keyboard mode like it should

Huh, weird. Maybe I'm just mapping it the wrong way? Did you do joypad map, keyboard map, or something else?

First time i mapped all M62 games buttons and directions and from then i didnt had any issues . In the meantime i learned to use the gamepad mode too , consoles are more accurate in moves in gamepad mod then keyboard .
Try to remap again in default mode (keyboard) and save that settings . Actually i played few days ago Kung Fu / spartan , but i sucks … only stage 2 with 1 cc
